The Scarecrow in "Howl's Moving Castle"-A Story Around You

If one day, I am old. I will watch you quietly and stay by your side. Take you to the peaceful lake, or the most familiar former residence. There is what you looked like when you were forever young.

I would like Hal ten years ago because he is who I am. Brave and timid, frank and headstrong, full of childishness. But now, it is the scarecrow who impressed me the most in the whole film.

Met Sophie in the wilderness, and he gave Sophie a cane. Sophie is aging due to the curse. Before the curse is lifted, this cane is the most needed item for Sophie to walk in the wilderness. Sophie said: I need a place to live. The Scarecrow took Sophie to Howl's mobile castle, where he could warm her and give her a new life and hope. Sophie bids farewell to the Scarecrow at the gate of the castle. After Sophie and Hal fell in love, Sophie became young. The Scarecrow's cane never appeared again.

When Sophie was sad because of Hal's willfulness and cried bitterly in the rain, the Scarecrow held up a broken umbrella for her. However, Sophie quickly went back to clean up Hal's endgame. Actually, I really want to know, while Sophie was taking a bath in Fuhar, tidying up the room, warming him up with milk, and agreeing to see the king for him, where did the scarecrow shelter from the rain?

The scarecrow has always been alive and kicking, accompany Sophie to dry clothes, clean up the house, silent, happy and contented.

When Sophie begged the witch to return Hal's heart and bring Hal back to life, the Scarecrow looked back. When Howl's magic disappeared and everyone's life fell by a thread, the scarecrow used his life to prevent the plank from falling off the cliff. Sophie lifted up the scattered scarecrow and kissed gratefully. The Scarecrow loved Sophie, so Sophie's kiss lifted the curse of the Scarecrow, and the Scarecrow became a prince. When Sophie and Hal embraced and celebrated the rest of their lives, the prince waved goodbye to everyone.

Scarecrow In this movie, I don't think he is a tragic character, nor is it just a mere genius, but as flesh and blood as Sophie and Hal. Maybe in life, we all admire the fantastic and wonderful love story of Sophie and Howl, and we all look forward to the perfect ending for lovers who finally get married. It's just that we can always see scarecrows around us who silently give and wait, but are not the protagonist. Hayao Miyazaki is the director of this story, and the Scarecrow cannot change the direction and ending of this story. Our real life is also composed of countless stories, and we also cannot choose to play Hal or the Scarecrow. Hayao Miyazaki is a master. This story takes place in a fairy tale world, but it makes me feel real.

I am no longer young, but I am not old either. The magic in fairy tales and the beautiful and innocent world no longer make me yearn for like a child, but can understand everything that the story tells and wants to express. I believe that all viewers will be disappointed to discover that the heroine of this story is an old lady, but there are many such curses that I have experienced, and we suddenly find that we are old overnight. From shock and panic to plainness. It’s just that in the eyes of some people, we are always cute, and that is our face that will not change from birth to old age. There will always be some people who let us feel regained youth-that is easy to be sensitive, full of expectations, and only happy time.

Most of the time, we are like scarecrows in the wilderness, hiding in the grass, waiting silently. One day, Sophie will pass by and dig me out of the grass, and then we will start a new story, and there will be new people related to us.

I like this story, and I am glad that what we see is just a fragment of the world in which Hal and Sophie are. I believe that after the scarecrow becomes a prince in that world, there will eventually be a princess of her own. She may not be Sophie, but I know everyone's life continues. We all have the right to have the pursuit and hope for tomorrow. Most importantly, Howl’s mobile castle is a beautiful story, and this story may be illusory or true, and it happens all around us.

Howl's Moving Castle quotes

  • Markl: [reading the newspaper] But the newspaper says we won.

Witch of the Waste: [smoking a cigar] Only idiots believe what they read in the paper.

Old Sophie: That's so strange, I can't get Calcifer going!

[to the Witch of the Waste]

Old Sophie: Do you have to keep smoking that? It smells terrible!

Witch of the Waste: Don't deny an old witch her pleasures, young lady.

Old Sophie: Markl, will you crack a window, please?

Witch of the Waste: [continues smoking] I wouldn't open that window if I were you, dear. Calcifer's too weak right now to protect this place, Suliman's henchmen could get in.

  • Young Sophie: [Approaches the Witch of the Waste while she tries to hide Howl's heart] Howl needs that back now.

Witch of the Waste: Don't look at me, I don't have it, I don't know what you're talking about.

Young Sophie: [hugs her] Please give it back.

Witch of the Waste: You really want it that badly?

Young Sophie: [on the verge of crying] Yes.

Witch of the Waste: Alright then, you'd better take good care of it.

    Young Sophie: Okay.

Witch of the Waste: [hands her Howl's heart] Here, dear.

Young Sophie: Thank you, you have a big heart!

    [kisses her]
