A good plot wasted in vain

The director abruptly put together a romantic wedding, a sweet honeymoon, colorful Brazil, a thrilling pregnancy, and life and death changes. It could have been a very beautiful, romantic, compact, and touching script, but it was a mess.
If you haven't read the original book, you may not be able to understand the complex relationships, the inexplicable expressions, the tangled and twisted thoughts, the whole thing is a confusing mess.
Except for the short part of the last transformation, which is barely counted as having a little effect, the others are really annoying to watch.
