Satan or God?

It's a pure Catholic film, full of big chunks of serious dialogue. For someone like me who has read the Bible once, the film is too obscure, and some of the plots are inexplicable, especially the death of the devout priest Sunny at the end. Since I don't have much contact with Catholicism, I can only talk about it and let others listen to it.

The "Old Testament Bible Genesis" says that Adam and Eve, the first ancestors of mankind, stole the fruit of wisdom and were driven out of heaven by God. Since then, their descendants have carried the original sin and lived without suffering. In this way, all people start out between God and Satan. Either they were redeemed by God and returned to their former paradise again. Or be tempted by Satan and fall into the endless hell. In this way, human beings can be divided into two categories: first, those who are aware of their sins, and take the initiative to repent to God and plead for God's redemption; second, those who are stubborn, do not admit their sins, and do not believe in God. In the first category, it can be further subdivided into two categories: 1. Those who have been redeemed by God and will go to heaven after death; 2. Those who have not been redeemed by God and still go to hell after death. The trouble, however, is that in the first category, who belongs to the redeemed and who belongs to the unredeemed, only God knows, not those who are waiting for redemption. Perhaps it is for this reason that there is an ascetic way of practice, which regards dependence on the flesh as a hindrance to God's redemption, and expresses one's faith to God by enduring the pain of flogging: Behold, in the flesh Of ease and the glory of heaven, I choose the latter.

In fact, the test you give yourself is easy to withstand. The test that Satan gives to himself is not easy to endure. For example, look at how Satan tempted Jesus in the Bible.

The following is the content of chapter 4, verses 1 to 11 of the Gospel of Matthew:

4:1 At that time, Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
4:2 He fasted forty days and forty nights, and then he was hungry.
4:3 The tempter came and said to him, If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become bread.
4:4 But Jesus answered and said, It is written, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. ’
4:5 So the devil brought him into the holy city, and made him stand on the top of the temple,
4:6 He said to him, If you are the Son of God, jump down. For it is written, "The Lord commanded his angels for you to support you in his hands, lest your feet strike a stone. '
4:7 Jesus said to him, It is written again, 'You shall not put the Lord your God to the test. '
4:8 And the devil took him up to the highest mountain again, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor,
4:9 and said to him, If you will fall down and worship me, I will take all of them. bestowed upon you.
4:10 Jesus said, Go away, Satan. [Satan means resistance is another name for the devil] For it is written, "Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only." '
4:11 So the devil left Jesus, and angels came to serve him.

The Satan Jesus saw was deceitful. It does not look upon people with a terrible face, nor does it coerce people with suffering. Rather, he is good at deceiving people and shaking people's confidence in the Lord; or good at seducing people and shaking people's fascination for the kingdom of heaven. Just like the devout priest Donisan in the film, on the way to Etap on foot, under extreme fatigue, he saw Satan, who turned into a horse dealer and persuaded Donisan to take a shortcut to Etap. Persuade Donisan to rest to relieve fatigue. If it is said that Jesus successfully resisted Satan's temptation, Father Donisan can be said to have failed - he failed to complete the mission to Etapu, but got lost in the middle.

Therefore, I feel that the miracle of Father Donisan in the film: he can listen to the heart of the girl Mushaet and bring the child back to life. Not necessarily from God, but from Satan. It seems that Jesus was also accused by the Pharisees that the miracles he performed were not from God, but from Satan. So, did Donisan realize that he didn't defeat Satan that he died in the confession ceremony?

Although he believes in God, whether he can be redeemed or not is a problem. Even Jesus, before he died, was shaken about whether he belonged to God: "My God, my God! Why have you forsaken me?" (The New Testament, Matthew 27:46, The New Testament, Gospel of Mark, Chapter 15, Verse 34)

Under the Sun of Satan quotes

  • Donissan: God is mocking me.

  • [first lines]

Donissan: With you, everything looks easy. Alone, I'm useless. I'm like the zero, only useful next to other numbers. Priests are so miserable. They waste their lives seeing God being ignored. People make jokes on us. We're like those walls where people write obscenities.

    Menou-Segrais: You're tired.

Donissan: Tired? I'm not tired. Tired is a bad thought.

    Menou-Segrais: Suspend your visits.

Donissan: Those visits do more harm than good. In the beginning, I didn't know evil. I learned it from the mouths of the sinners.

Menou-Segrais: No one knows better than a priest about the terrible monotony of sin.

Donissan: I can't speak to them. I can't only make absolutions and feel sorry.

Menou-Segrais: If one absolution in thirty was worthy, the world would be brief.
