wholeness of fragmentation

When the stream of consciousness image is not blindly surrealism, impressionism, expressionism, and abstraction, then this image is very likely to be "The Tree of Life". Terrence Malik, who has been influenced by Harvard and Oxford Philosophy Departments, expresses the mystery and unworldliness of Heidegger's existentialism with delicate and delicate pictures. Some of the scenes in the movie that show "the prehistoric universe and the frailty of human beings" may have done enough strength in the combination of movement and stillness, but they were somewhat loose in terms of relaxation. Personally, I like the hidden contradictions of the middle-class family in the film: the father's innocence and self-righteousness, the mother's beauty and flexibility, the children's repression with Oedipus complex, and the fit between self-worth and other people's expectations. The details of the story are more vivid and the communication between "people" and "shadows" in Terrence's "magic hour natural light framing technique" photography tone. After all, obscure and grand things can reach people's hearts through a kind of expressive force. Especially when it comes to "Life Track", a movie that can cover all aspects of the theme, it depends on some powerful details. The color tone of the film is white with a dazzling aperture. This pure symbolism reflects the thin and endless extension of life. The sound and picture combination of the soundtrack, in my opinion, can directly point to the best arrangement for this year's Oscars. The experimental nature of "The Tree of Life" lies in: using a finely crafted photography and video style to embellish a state of existence. It is hard to say whether form is greater than content or content is greater than form, and more importantly, it uses rare stylization to reflect the integrity of fragmentation.

The Tree of Life quotes

  • Father Haynes: Do you trust in God? Job too, was close to the Lord. Are your friends and children, your security? There is no hiding place in all the world where trouble may not find you. No one knows when sorrow might visit his house, any more than Job did. At the very moment everything was taken away from Job. He knew it was the Lord who had taken it away.

  • Mr. O'Brien: The world lives by a trigger. If you want to succeed, you can't be too good!
