Work hard to change destiny

I don't know how useful this title is for spoiler...According to my movie-watching habits, there are very few movies I watched for the director, and this movie is one of them. Perhaps it’s also because director Duncan Jones has only made 3 movies so far. Since watching "Source Code" in the cinema, the only feature film that the director has ever filmed before has naturally become my next viewing target. .

The beginning of the film is quite in the style of a science and education film, which also brings out the background of the whole film. The next story almost all takes place in such a place-the lunar space station.
The protagonist of this film, Sam, is a clone: for them, 3 years is not only the time for them to carry out their mission, but also the life span for them to survive. After 3 years, they will be destroyed unknowingly. At this time, another clone with the same gene as them but with initialized memory will take over for their next 3-year mission. If the clone has an accident A substitute will also be sent. This is the rule defined in the film. If so, the story of the film is actually about the problem with the last "accident" rule-the protagonist accidentally discovered the secret of being a clone. He is not reconciled to his destiny that has been defined from the beginning. What follows is the effort he made to change his destiny.

Since I have already seen another work "Source Code" by the director before, I don't need to analyze this film with anything other than movies. The two films are indeed similar in many places, but "Source Code" is repeatedly using the memory of the same person (I can't say it as "soul"), but this film is repeatedly using the cloned body of the same person! And the final actions of the protagonist all reflect the power of a certain "choice"-at this time, after they know their secrets, they actually have a choice to continue according to the original rules or to "revolution", even though they also I knew what the "revolution" would end up but chose this path in the end.
However, in comparison, Sam's choice in the film did not bring many surprises in the end. In the end, the moon station still operated according to the previous rules. After Sam returned to Earth, it did not seem to be earth-shattering. But this kind of ending feels more reasonable and more real in comparison. What kind of fate Sam will have after returning to Earth doesn't really matter to me anymore.

The scene where Sam’s wife and daughter appeared for the first time in this film, maybe it’s because I have seen too many similar plots before. When the film reaches this scene, I already have a feeling that their current situation is definitely not what it looks like at this time. , The following plot also confirms this point. But when Sam's daughter came out again, she sent me a message-now the real Sam is still alive! If this is the case, things will really have a lot to do in the future.
In addition, I would like to praise the host system of this lunar station-GERTY. In this film, this software system is no longer a robot that mechanically executes instructions, but can give correct guidance to the protagonist's actions. Even Sam's final success is largely due to his help. This completely changed the impression that the previous WALL-E host system left on me.
