To be honest, it is a movie with strong national sentiment, but it is not offensive. The anti-Japanese films and war films made in China all feel the slogan, which makes me feel a little tired. Putting aside the war, even if you look at this film as a love ethics film, there are still many things to watch.
Zhang Wu's role is very lovable but also heavy, he dares to bear it, and he dares to resist, although this resistance has accumulated for some time. His love for his mother was so cruel that it still earned my tears in the last five minutes. The roles of both him and his mother revolve around the word "liberation". He helped his mother get rid of the tattoo, and the scene of cutting off the tattoo on her chest was really shocking; to free himself, he couldn't bear his mother's lover, so he took him Killed like a dog, then embarked on a suicide journey on a motorcycle alone. On the snowy days in winter, my mother finally found his body. The weird thing was that I didn't think the picture was scary, but only relieved: he finally went home. The mother carried his body home, the family portrait on the table, the photo taken by the mother when Zhang Wu was not paying attention, and Zhang Wu's military boots... The picture began to die, and I could already foresee the next scene... at the door The voice of the postman came, and it was the echo that Zhang Wu's mother had been waiting for her whole life. But the tattoo has disappeared and the person is no longer there. She can only hug Zhang Wu's corpse and seek the final release in the fire.
I don't really like Enluo, the heroine who always covers her right eye, although she understands the pain of her character. The pain in the right eye, the pain of being trampled on, because she wanted to erase these pains, she surrendered to the American soldiers and healed her eyes... All of this was obtained suddenly, and it came too easily. She really went back to the original point: in order not to get a tattoo, she blinded her right eye again, and used this eye to find the way to her former lover. Jin Jide studies Buddhism, and his films are somewhat influenced by him. He always likes to pay attention to the word "hui". The same is true for "Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring", which can be seen from the name.
I have always been very concerned about the feelings of the American soldier and Zhang Wu's father towards Enluo and Zhang Wu's mother. Although there is no subtitle, I seem to hear the American soldier say "I love you" to Enlo at the end, I believe he loves Enlo, they will never forget this love in a foreign country, just Like that letter to an unknown addressee that finally received an echo.
The tone of the whole film is gray, but the unexpected is not depressing. The genre is obviously heavy, but it makes me feel more surprised.
The last thing that surprised me - was made in 2001. (10 years ago, he actually hid such a good film...) Kim Ki-
duk is really extraordinary!

    1. Kim Ki-deok's work that deeply exposes the scars of national history. 2. The use of metaphorical symbols is perfect, pointing directly to the relationship between South Korea and the United States, fate and reincarnation. 3. The animal symbol that Lao Jin is good at: using a dog as a metaphor for a person, and thinking about the [Yellow Sea]. 4. The threesome scene of "losing" the right eye is very darkly humorous. 5. See also sad and absurd spectacles of heavy taste: masturbating with a dog, a dog dealer hanged by a dog, cutting milk, shooting a bow and arrow in the crotch, swallowing a wire for revenge, and committing suicide with a V-shaped head.
