Michael Crichton (George Clooney), once a brilliant criminal prosecutor, has made a name for himself in the New York legal world. After an unexplainable encounter, Michael left his post. Fortunately, he has found a position in a large private law firm, and for the time being, he can rely on his rich experience to stay alive. Under the urging of the new boss Marty Batcher (Sidney Pollack), he began to conscientiously clean up all kinds of dirty legal affairs for Kenner, Reading and the boss Batcher.
However, different circumstances and busy and hard work finally changed Michael Crichton's personal life greatly: his wife and children left him, and the already stretched economic situation was hit hard again. The immeasurable debt made him lose his former luster, and was completely tired of it. Although Michael desperately wanted to get out of his current job, his financial situation and his sworn determination to work for the company's boss left him no choice but to continue to suffer in such a job. Meanwhile, Michael Crichton is embroiled in a multimillion-dollar class-action lawsuit over the company's dirty business. While he uses his connections and rich experience to "poke the fog" to successfully resolve the lawsuit, another clerk under the boss, Arthur Edens (Tom Wilkinson), and his daughter The involvement of litigator Karen Crowder (Tilda Swinton) and others has made Michael Crichton's career and life face a new round of severe challenges...

Personally, I think the suspense setting is average, but the supporting actress is more impressed.

Michael Clayton quotes

  • Marty Bach: We've got 600 attorneys here. We've got to find out who's an expert on psychiatric commitment statutes.

Michael Clayton: I can tell you who that is: Arthur.

  • Barry Grissom: Look. I agreed to this, OK? But there's rules now. You want the contract, you're signing a confidentiality agreement; it's gonna be bulletproof, and it's gonna be retroactive. Because Marty's too nice to say it, but with everything you know about this place and the clients here and the people who work here, it makes it a little weird when you come in and ask for 80 grand.

Michael Clayton: If I was gonna shake anybody down, Barry, I'd come directly to you, and it wouldn't be for 80 grand.

    [to Marty]

Michael Clayton: Is this him, or is this you?

Barry Grissom: Hey, if I'm wrong, I apologize.

Michael Clayton: You're wrong. You're way the fuck wrong!

Barry Grissom: So there you go.
