"Le Quattro Volte": 4 times, animistic and beautiful

A simple mountain village in Italy, probably in early autumn.
The old man appeared on the hillside with a flock of sheep, and a chaotic sound of bells followed up the hillside.
The wind picked up, a tree with a white trunk rustled, and the old man leaned against it and coughed under the tree.
The sound of the sheepdog running across the grass shows how thick the grass is.
At twilight, crickets began to chirping on the mountain path, and the old shepherd was hunched over, leaning on crutches to go home...

The first few scenes of the film made me know that this is my favorite poetry film.
There are many wonderful connections between people, objects and things in each picture, which are naturally and colorful, so that the film does not need a dialogue or a soundtrack, and it also abandons the tangible plot. It is so poetic. Elephants are invisible, minimalist and powerful, and penetrate deep into your heart. The director was so smart that he didn't seem to do anything, just put the camera there at the right time. "Le Quattro Volte" is without a doubt one of my favorites.
The title of "Four Times" originates from the theory of the ancient Greek philosopher Pythagoras in the 6th century BC, who believed that the soul is immortal and reborn in four life forms - human, animal, plant, and mineral.
The 124-minute film has many moments that tug at the heartstrings, not only the heartstrings of people and animals, but also the heartstrings of the weather, vegetation, a lamp, a stone, a road, and even the whole nature— -Because they have spirituality that can be communicated to each other. The film captures them, and the simple ecological picture is also full of spiritual beauty and spiritual philosophy.

The old man believed that he could continue his life by drinking the ashes swept from the church every night. One night he couldn't find the "medicine" ashes, so he rushed to the church and knocked on the door all night. The next morning, the sheepdog confronted passers-by in the village. On the slope, it kicked away the stones stuck behind the wheels of the motorized trailer. The car swooped down the slope and rammed the sheepfold. The sheep climbed to the second floor. old man's house. The old man was lying on the bed dying. When he was dying, his blurry eyes saw that the sheep were also watching him silently. The sheep were seeing him off. He was not alone.
Who can deny that Huizhen in the church can prolong the life of the old man, so that he can't drink it, and he will die the next day? Who's to say that the rock stuck behind the wheel didn't call the shepherd to kick it off, but the rock was persuaded by the restless sheep in the sheepfold, because the old shepherd didn't come to graze? Maybe the sheep saw him going out to church last night, they knew the old man was dying and wanted to give him a ride?

The old man died and turned into dust in the columbarium, and at the same time, a lamb was born.
At this moment, you suddenly feel the eyes of the old man and the sheep when he is dying. Is there anything that is conveying?

The newborn lamb was lying on the ground, calling out tenderly, "baa-baa--" announcing its visit to this world, the sheep greeted its arrival with silence, and it didn't take long for the lamb to get rid of the discomfort, its weak legs Finally, he barely supported his body and stood up. At this moment, the ewe lovingly came over to feed the milk. In the flock, a goat who might be Xinke's father calmly looked up at the sky, and a dandelion-like cloud was stretching.
The lamb lived a simple and real life. When it was older, it began to join the grazing team, but it was still too young and accidentally fell into the ditch. When it climbed up, the flock could not be found. It searched and cried, anxious and pitiful, and finally, it saw a tall and beautiful tree, curled up under the tree, and the night devoured them all. Was it tiredness, was it despair, or was that tree that made it give up and keep looking?

The snuggling of the sheep and the tree once again completed the relay of the spirit. Then the lamb disappeared, maybe dead, maybe found.
The tree is the next protagonist of the spirit of nature in the shot. Later, the trees and hillsides were covered with snow, and later, the trees were sawed off and pulled into the village. People used it to celebrate the festival. The crowded and noisy crowd was festive and lively. After the celebration, the tree was sawed into large sections and sent to a workshop with a lot of lumber.

People use traditional craftsmanship to make charcoal from wood pulled from various places. Among the piles of charcoal that was just ready and still smoking, it was impossible to tell which piece of charcoal was in that tree. The charcoal was packed into sacks, sent to the village, entered every household, turned into cooking smoke and escaped from the chimney on the roof. It watched the sky above the village and finally dispersed.

The film is about to end, and at this time, I still continue to write innumerable connections from the transparent air of scattered nothingness——
At dinner time, the smell of boiled goat milk flows from the windows,
and the milked sheep usher in the evening rest in the sheep pen.
A snail climbed to the place where the tree fell, and it was the day the old man died, the lamb's mother crawled out of the pot that had been kicked over on the old man's table.
A group of ants removed some food scraps from the church floor, and brought a few grains of medicinal "ash" back to the tree with the white trunk. From the dust, the tree heard the singing and prayers of the church.
There was a stubborn piece of charcoal always every time. It fell off the edge of the shovel once and was never put into the sack, but it shredded smaller and smaller in the beating.
