Twin Peaks (Twin Peaks) 1990-1991
Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me (Twin Peaks:
Walking with Fire) 1992's famous masterpiece. When watching movies, you should see high-quality products, and watching American TV series should also see high-quality products. Search the Internet and find an IMDB list of TV series. Several American dramas before "Twin Peaks", "Arrested Development" and "The Wire" are not my favorite genre films, nor do I like to watch cartoons, and the others either have no Chinese subtitles or no resources. Only "Twin Peaks" has complete resources for the end of the season, plus this is the work of David Lynch, who I admire, and I am determined to watch it.
This American drama has two seasons in total, with 8 episodes in the first season and 22 episodes in the second season, plus a prequel to the movie. There are not many episodes in total, but I actually watched it for nearly two months. The process of watching it was really a torment, and the more I watched it, the more it collapsed. There are many reasons for my breakdown, both advantages and disadvantages, to put it simply.
One is the setting of the plot, which made me collapse, but this is also the advantage of this show. The plot involves a lot of supernatural phenomena: soul possession, alien legends, parallel worlds, alien creatures, angels and demons. These elements are combined in one show, making the plot full of puzzles. In order to follow the plot and understand the story, I was very broken. I have seen almost all of the movies made by David Lynch. He is a super amazing director, so for his story mode, I have been somewhat prepared before watching the movie. Even so, when I went deep into the plot, it still made me creepy and my scalp tingled. Every time there is a twist in the plot, it takes me by surprise. The direction of the plot never ceases to amaze me.
The second is the weird way of filming the episode, which made me collapse, which is the advantage of this film. After watching "Blue Velvet", "Mulholland Drive", "Monster Night" and "Inland Empire", I have learned about David Lynch's shooting mode. It is unusual and often has a very strange atmosphere. The same is true for this film, such as the sudden appearance of hideous faces, strange expressions with disgusting faces, rooms with strange scenery, virtual and real images, and the occasional strange characters that have nothing to do with the plot. are not comfortable. I advise people who want to watch this drama to never watch it at night, because the scenes in the picture will make people feel a lot of fear. This kind of fear is even more serious than that of horror movies, which are only visual, but "Twin Peaks" is psychological, and it goes straight to the bottom of my heart. A few times I watched it and I got goosebumps and had to collapse.
The third is the slow rhythm of the episode itself, which makes me cringe because of the procrastination, which is a disadvantage. In today’s American TV series, the rhythm and structure of episodes are similar to those of movies. There may be many American TV series whose content is more informative than a movie. Times are advancing, and so is the film and television production industry. So, in the 21st century today, watching episodes from 20 years ago, of course, you can't get used to that slow narrative. In the first season, there were 8 episodes in total, and the rhythm was better, but it was a little delayed. But in the second season, it became more procrastination. Many unrelated scenes consume time, such as drinking a cup of coffee, the camera needs to stay on the coffee cup for a few seconds, then raise the cup for a few seconds, and it takes a few seconds to take a few sips. At first, I thought that drinking coffee had a lot to do with the plot, but later I found out that it has nothing to do with it, it's just that the characters are drinking coffee! The thing that bothered me the most was that many of the characters in the series had to take a few sips of coffee every now and then, which really left me speechless. There is also a scene that impressed me the most. In the last episode of the second season, a faltering old man was pacing in the bank, and the camera actually captured the slow process of the old man! Isn't this no plot, is it hard to stretch time? An old man walking, what's so beautiful? And it has nothing to do with the plot. After watching a total of 30 episodes, the episodes are quite long, but I don't remember what the characters in the show did? This is because the characters waste a lot of time drinking coffee, walking, etc. Therefore, it took me two months to finish the 30-episode story, which was too long!
The fourth is the unrelated sideline plot of the episode, which makes me very broken. In the 8 episodes of the first season, the plot is very simple, that is, how to solve the case and arrest the murderer. By the second season, the story was out of tune. Nadine Hurley Amnesia, Lucy Moran Pregnancy, James Hurley Framed, Audrey Horne's Love, Jocelyn 'Josie' Packard's Conspiracy, Catherine Martell and His Brother's Resurrection, Norma Jennings and Big Ed Hurley's Love, Deputy Andy Brennan and Dick Tremayne For Children's investigations, several crimes involving Deputy Tommy 'Hawk' Hill, etc., have nothing to do with the Night's Watch and the killing of Laura Palmer. These messed up stories are completely pieced together for the sake of the story. When I was watching the drama, I didn't know that these had nothing to do with the main plot, and I still watched it seriously. But looking at it, I felt more and more that something was wrong, and the more I looked at it, the more I felt collapsed. The 22 episodes of the second season were completely unnecessary, and the story should have ended when Leland Palmer was caught and disappeared. The rest of the story, the dog-tailed sable, influenced the entire series.
The five stories ended suddenly, and the ending of the characters was not fully explained, which made me collapse. Season 2, episode 22, ends with Dale Cooper being possessed, and no one else's story is involved at all. The most incomprehensible thing is that the last 15 minutes spent a lot of time circling the house, which could obviously tell other people's stories, wasting precious time in vain. Is Audrey Horne dead? Who is Donna Hayward's father? What happened after Benjamin Horne was beaten? How about Norma Jennings, Big Ed Hurley, Deputy Tommy 'Hawk' Hill? Are Andrew Packard and Pete Martell dead? Has the Lucy Moran child been born? How did Leo Johnson end? How does Garland Briggs act after hearing the message from the Night Watch? Has Annie Blackburn become like Dale Cooper? These are unspoken plots. This abrupt end really hurts and breaks me. Is Twin Peaks a show that got cut? Was there a third season planned?
The above is the story of 30 episodes in two seasons, which brings me the feeling. Another movie version of "Twin Peaks: Walking With Fire", although it also broke me, but with less elements.
I've seen this movie version before, and I didn't understand it the first time I saw it. Now that I've read it a second time, I don't know what the story is about. If you haven't watched the 30-episode two-season story, you can't understand the plot at all. This film version can be said to be a work of "filling in the hole". The truth of the things revealed in the 30 episodes of the story is interpreted in the correct order. We can finally find out how Laura Palmer was killed. It turns out that the practice of "filling the pit" in Hollywood TV dramas has a fine tradition.
Compared with the series, the movie version retains the advantages of the series and discards the disadvantages, which is perfect. Since it has the advantages of an episode, there are bound to be all kinds of weird scenes and unimaginable plots. These elements continue to break me down, especially when I watch it alone at night. All in all, more terrifying, scary, mysterious, and more so than the show! In addition, the film version has several shortcomings: the role of Donna Hayward has been replaced; the role of Audrey Horne has been deleted; and many characters have not appeared. These shortcomings make the series "Twin Peaks" incomplete and inconsistent. Although the characters that did not appear have nothing to do with the murder of Laura Palmer, they are part of the whole show after all, and they are not complete without them. It's a pity that the directors spent 30 episodes creating these characters.
The full set of episodes also has a very big advantage: the beauty is like a cloud! There are too many beauties in the film, and the main female characters are all beautiful to the extreme, and anyone can come out alone to be the heroine. Lara Flynn Boyle, Sherilyn Fenn, Sheryl Lee, Madchen Amick are four beauties, each of which is so glamorous that it is amazing that an American drama can gather so many beauties. It's a pity that none of these beauties became popular. Most of them were born in the 1970s, and they are all in their forties now. It seems that even if you have a good face, you may not necessarily be red.
The series and the movie version are viewed together, and it is a good drama with a strong David Lynch style and a strong impact. It's a pity that the bad plot of the second season has affected the overall quality of the show and lowered the level of the show. The appearance of the movie version has slightly improved the overall level. Can't say this show is a masterpiece, but it's worth watching. After all, this is a work from twenty years ago.
