Some people say that most of Jason Reitman's works are cruelty themes, including this "In the Clouds", which is also known as the "widows\sportsman's flight diary". From the beginning of the film, the various reactions and expressions of those who were notified of the loss of the post have been constantly shown. The incident and the protagonist of the film, Ryan, dealt with these layoffs with quite mechanical words and deeds. At the same time, living seemingly colorful, gorgeous and glamorous, but in fact, year after year, unchanging boring days. This kind of high-intensity life like boiling a frog in warm water does have a cruel connotation, but it is not lifeless. Throughout the whole film, it actually reflects the real life's essential characteristics of light and dark, high and low, relaxed and heavy, elegant and vulgar, happy and sad, and we Life is just so elusive-whether you are down to earth or in the clouds.
"Loneliness" has always been firmly affixed to Ryan as a label of life state and emotional state. In many people's eyes, loneliness is a kind of chic. Of course, a large number of people think that choosing loneliness is an abnormal lifestyle. Ryan, however, has his own opinions, which are expressed particularly fully in his communication with his prospective brother-in-law, but this communication seems very strange: as a celibate, Ryan persuades others to welcome and enjoy the marriage as soon as possible. In fact, he has no such prejudice; then when the brother-in-law dropped the burden and took his lover's hand, it brought about Ryan's change. He finally plucked up the courage to meet with Alex, hoping to start a beautiful relationship; however, when he came to the door of Alex's house, he saw the child behind Alex who came to open the door, and heard Alex's husband in the house asking who was visiting. When we heard the sound of the vase, we seemed to have heard the sound of the vase cracking. Indeed, the cruelty of Jason Reitman suddenly attacked us in this way.
What's interesting is that Ryan's flight mileage reached 10 million miles when he was listless and almost depressed. When this long-awaited value and moment finally arrived, he seemed to have no excitement and pleasure. At this time, the captain who was like Santa Claus sat beside him and asked him what he wanted to say. Ryan thought for a while and shook his head: "I have forgotten." In fact, this kind of forgetting is equivalent to refreshing. When Ryan “forgets”, he begins to get in touch with the true meaning of life. Life is a journey without knowing the destination or mileage. During this long journey, surprises, disappointments, and disappointments may appear. Joy, melancholy, excitement, sadness, there may be a lot of "episodes" that Alex said. These episodes may be long and true, but they are always episodes, and eventually exist as accidents and fragments; the meaning of life lies in Constantly completing these limited "ten million miles", and constantly forgetting what we expected to say after reaching these "ten million miles", maybe we have real feelings of our own, but we have more Really own life.
It seems that we should pay special attention to two things in the film. One is Ryan’s backpack. In his speech, he constantly used this backpack as the main prop, describing and explaining his theory and ideals of emptying the backpack and getting on the road easily, just like a Buddha. What the family said is "put it down"; the other is a photo board of his younger sister and her brother-in-law. The younger sister asked him to place the photo board in front of famous local attractions or buildings as a memento every time he goes. I've really been here. These two things or signs and their respective meanings form a huge tension. One requires less and nothing, one requires and more, one is to put down and empty, and the other is to pick up and fill up, so what? Which is the attitude and philosophy we should have in life? Just like the young female clerk Natalie who graduated from the prestigious Cornell University in the film, her wish is nothing more than to find a man who loves animals and can have a kind smile, marry and have children, so as not to grow old alone, but her ideal love suddenly After being terminated, Ryan's "Finally you will die alone" sentence made her feel more at a loss. At this time, which opinion and attitude should we prefer? In fact, the collision of different values has always appeared in the film, even in a person's thought process and life course, it is impossible to be completely mastered and manipulated by a value. We keep hitting walls and failing constantly. In fact, this is also our constant understanding and comprehension of life.
At the end of the film, Ryan, who became single again, chose to start again-traveling frequently around seems to be his life. Yes, it is also a good way of life to choose to walk in the clouds all the time. If you are tired, and occasionally rest in the clouds, you may be able to see the different scenery that you usually can't see.
