beautiful, moving

There are many sayings about Christmas, and this movie is about one of those legends. Finland has long been widely considered the location of the real Santa Claus, or at least the Finns believe it, ha!
The whole movie is full of love, longing, and dedication (this is also the character of Finns). The main theme has been basically summarized in other comments, and will not be repeated here.
I have worked in a Finnish company for ten years, and I am very familiar with Finnish (I am familiar, not understanding, I only know the pronunciation of dozens of words), and I have a preliminary understanding of Finland. With such a foundation, when you go to see this movie, you will see a lot of familiar details. I chose to watch the original sound in Finnish + Chinese subtitles.
Finland is one of the countries with the highest forest coverage. Wooden houses, tables, workbenches, barrels, boats, sleds... are the most common of their lives. There are even wooden bowls and cups. Saw a lot of familiar Finnish food: black bread with a hole in the middle of the circle (hanging horizontally in a wooden pole and drying), thick soup. Rough national clothes, shoes. Wood, fireplaces...
and Rain Deer the elk. In Finland, you can eat elk meat (thin marinated meat slices, broths, and meat pieces), elk antler products, and elk skin (sold at the Finnish Pavilion during the Expo, 1999 RMB/piece). The pronunciation and tones of Finnish are even more familiar and pleasant.
There are also pocket knives used by Nikolas: wooden handle, leather case. Knives are also a speciality of Finland. There are many handmade knives. The wooden handle used is a special kind of wood, with beautiful patterns, and some antlers are added to embellish it. The knife case is deerskin, thick and rough.
The music of the film is also well matched. When Nikolas first trained the elk, he used a cheerful dance song. The soundtrack is mostly Finnish and fits the plot.
Finland is known as the "Land of a Thousand Lakes", and fishing is a traditional Finnish industry. The hardworking people lived a hard life, but they still shared the responsibility of raising Nikolas who lost his parents.
In a society dominated by traditional agriculture (or fishing), small traders are considered to be shrewd, liars and even terrible people, which is understandable. Based on this background, the simple villagers would have worried that Nikolas would be deceived by Lisakki, but that year was such a disaster year, and their own lives were so poor that they could not afford Nikolas.
Seeing this time, I even thought, what kind of bullying should Nikolas be? However, the reality is that Lisakki made a living by making furniture by his own craftsmanship and hard work. Although he was strict with Nikolas, he actually cared about him, even thinking of him as his own son.
The gratitude complex of Nikolas, the rough, honest and cute little animals and character woodcarvings he made also reveal the Finnish character: honest, simple, straightforward, persistent and cute.
It's Christmas in one month, I wish you all in advance: hyvää joulua
