What Love Is.

Just talk about Henry and Dean. Be careful with running water. Spoiler alert.
When I saw the name Big Eden for the first time, I felt very peaceful, and the film was actually the same as I imagined, like boiled water, slowly spreading a story and a relationship. The slow opening rhythm did not wear out people's patience, but wanted to concentrate and expect something to happen.
Henry, the male lead, is a somewhat clumsy but unusually sensitive artist, and it can be seen that a sense of inferiority over his sexuality haunts him all the time. Like many gay people, he constantly wanders, flees, and refuses access to his heart. By chance, he went back to his hometown, with beautiful scenery and simple and simple people, just like its name, Big Eden.
The scene where Henry dropped his luggage and jumped down to the water also made me believe that such a small town can really find a spiritual home.
At 10 minutes, clues about the role of Tim DeKay finally emerged. Following Henry's gaze, the camera finally landed on a photo in the corner of the frame, two teenagers, intimate and smiling brightly.
The old days are in sight.
Oh, so Eden can find his first love.
A little puppy blood is a little cliché, a subtle taboo feeling, but it is positive and appetite.
The warm-hearted Aunt Grace told Henry that Dean had a baby, and Dean was back. So Henry panicked and couldn't hide the joy in his heart. What the hell does Dean have kids? ! Oh my gosh! ! What are you divorced? Living alone? So how is he?
he's good. Grace means a lot.
Alright, alright, Henry thought that everyone knew what he was hiding.
Skip the crush, nervous and cute Uncle Pike. Henry had a good relationship with his old friend and finally met again.
Very plainly, he who tucked his trousers for his son, and he who passed by Xunshengwang, looked at each other and smiled. Dean sat up, turned around again, mouthed exaggeratedly, "Hey!"
Henry's heart was a thousand knots, his mind was delicate, and he went back and forth.
Dean's intimate gesture of slapping his ass, the sweaty shirt he threw at him, all made him feel indifferent, and his clumsy reaction was like the beginning of love in high school.
He kept burying the unspeakable forbidden love in his heart, but he couldn't restrain his strong feelings.
He thought that the man didn't know everything, but the man gave him a solid hug.
It turned out that all these years, he has always understood everything.
People also say, it's good to see you all the same again.
Seeing this, I thought the ending would be a happy one. Henry and Dean find their lost love, and they are excited to roll the sheets in the paradise, cannon fodder for the infatuated Uncle Pike, and cannon fodder for a group of rotten men and rotten women watching the fun.

However, the screenwriter was reluctant to let the two go smoothly, but nothing happened.
Except for that kiss.
Before this, everything was fine. looks good.
And after that, he said I can't. He said sorry. He said I thought I could.
Well, screenwriter, you said sorry that he was really straight like a steel pipe and I couldn't bend it, I accept it.
But Dean is still a pseudo-straight man at all. And then, like all the scumbags who feel cherished when they are finally facing loss, after seeing Henry and Pike talking happily and all kinds of eye fucks, he finally couldn't bear it anymore.
He declared sovereignty in front of Pike.
However, his swaying is no longer like a flickering candle that sends hope. The test of friendship or love, Henry was no longer willing to try.
Maybe it wasn't until now that Dean really recognized his feelings.
Also really soberly realized. He has been lost forever.
The boy who used to be a love that has been persistent for 20 years.
He once thought this was the biggest and most valuable weight in his hand, but he forgot that Henry was the owner of that weight.
He freaked out, he roared, he confessed his heart, and he left angrily. He is also willing to try again, to love him, and to try to save the future of both of them. Maybe it's just a matter of time, it's not love or not love.
But what's the use, the screenwriter is already determined to tear down your couple.
Well, We were lovers, we can only be the family.
Henry and Pike became more and more intimate, and Dean, who couldn't save Henry's exit, sat back in the car silently, crying bitterly.
Lost forever, he is at a loss like a child who has lost his beloved toy.
Next, the constant spare tire love.
When the love scene is frustrated, the crush is most likely to take advantage of it. Henry has Pike, and Dean waits for Anna.
They all said, fuck your first love, only Lao Tzu is the right way for you.

Then, the unexpected ending is really disappointing.

Everyone is looking for a good couple, and they are safe and sound.
The 20-year obsession was completely let go in an instant.
Dean naturally ignored Henry's presence, and firmly shook hands with Pike.
Under the night sky, Dean and Anna danced together, Henry and Pike kissed happily, and the fireworks were gorgeous. Like a paradise.

The screenwriter's intentions are "good and hard", giving people the feeling that they have torn apart a couple who can be happy. The contradictions in the relationship between the characters cannot be reconciled, and they have to be done. The sharp turnaround and hasty handling in the second half are slightly rough and regrettable.

What can you look for in the Taoyuan town far away from the hustle and bustle?
Without the pressure of survival, there is no need to worry about interpersonal relationships. Self-sufficient and worry-free.
So people can face it honestly - love.
Everyone sincerely faces the love of homosexuals, tolerates and understands. The tolerance and love of Sam and Grace and all of them to Henry makes the whole film feel tender.
But it's like Dean's confession to Henry at the Thanksgiving party.
But what love is?
20 years of waiting hard, because of love.
Willing to try to love a same-sex for him is because of love.
Choosing to escape when it is hot is also because of love?
I think the screenwriter also seems to be conveying such a message to us that the indescribable beauty of the sea flowers is ultimately not as real and reliable as the firewood, rice, oil and salt in life.
Who can know if that ethereal sea flower will disappear when it finally reaches out and touches it.

That night, the town of Eden was happy and peaceful, and the lovers kissed sweetly. It seems that no one remembers that not long ago, under the same night sky, he had led him to dance, spinning rapidly and full of power, and the pace was coordinated as if they were the same person.
I think there will be people who can't forget the emotional and internal trauma of that scene, when the fireworks are in full swing, and they hug each other, Henry's fingers on Dean's shoulders.
What love is. It

can only be said that the Garden of Eden is not necessarily all fairy tales.

Big Eden quotes

  • Jim Soams: There's so few nice surprises in life. Seems to me that it'd be kind of a shame to squander one of them, don't ya think?

  • Grace Cornwell: Listen, you know what they say when you get lost in the woods? If you stay put, stay in one place and don't wander, they'll find you. And I was just hoping you'd let yourself be found this time. I was hoping you'd let us find you. But you keep wandering and we can't.
