I didn't notice in the beginning that the story took place in sanxia, a place poets give their highest compliments and writers place their moving stories. This balzac is special in the sense that it stitches the social movements, shanxia and the ideal of reason together. literatrue about young intellectrals send into the countryside, some have similiar romantic plots, is not new at all. when the story happens in a place where the gorgeous goddess wushanshennv shows up and obriginal scenery is alive, it means something else. what will happen when the natural face the modern? we know the ending of the crash from reality rather than from the film. the movement was abortive and the sanxia was submerged into water.is memory or music persistent enough to convery and reserve the past of beauty?
the meaning of balzac is very intriguing. upto the middle of nineteenth century, reaon is regarded as the motto of the whole civilization. humans is unique for its ability to reason. reaonality is the stickyard to justify the civilized and the uncivilized, as it has been applied in the colonizing era, the occident and the orient. by turn of the twentith century, bearing the truma caused by the two world wars, reaon is doubted and even toppled in the world of literature. reason, as a construction of western hegemony , loses its appeal in its home land and strangely bolosomed in the east, China. Will reason bring happiness or the utopia to a nation out of nostalgia? will the little seamtress become the person she wants to be after bathing in the light of balzac and stride into modern cities?
