Who understands big brother's heart?

Avery is not the favorite of his parents as a child; he is not the favorite of his younger brother as a eldest brother; he is not favorite of his wife as a husband; but as a supporting role, he is my favorite.
Avery has a lot of helplessness. As the eldest son, his father loves Tristan the most. Maybe Avery doesn't have Tristan's bravery or his unruly, but there's no way, as the boss, he has his sense of responsibility. When the three brothers joined the army, his father just said coldly to Avery to take care, but he was so enthusiastic to his younger brothers, especially when his father called Tristan to protect samuel, but he didn't call him, and the loss was born spontaneously.
Avery can be said to be very good to his family. He likes Susan, but he didn't take his brother's love away, he just silently loved him in his heart. He was wounded on the battlefield, but did not forget to call Tristan to protect Samuel. When Tristan fled home after the war, he brought Samuel's body home, and he carried all the burdens. When his confession to Susan was rejected, and Susan watched Tristan go home, he silently left. He grew up alone in an unfamiliar city, and was opposed by his father when he turned from a businessman to a politician. When Tristan escaped again and Susan was in pain, he married Susan anyway. When Tristan smuggled wine, he was still covering Tristan. Unfortunately, he was just a politician and could not change this tragedy, but he still worked hard, and he finally saved Tristan's life.
But still no one understands him. He is probably the most tragic character in the whole show. He tries hard to defend the person he loves, but he can't get the person who loves him. He can't be as unruly as Tristan. He knew that Susan didn't really love him, but he still loved her and forgave her again and again. His father's incomprehension of him didn't affect his missing his father (it was just that his father didn't want to see him). He did many things for his family that ordinary people couldn't do: married Susan and ended up shooting the police.
Why can we understand Tristan's unrestrained and uninhibited, understand Susan's true love, but can't understand Avery's hard work and hardship?
The most comforting thing for me is that the ending is the hug between my father and Avery (see my tears welling up), as if all the contradictions have been resolved, that hug is what Avery has been dreaming about for a long time, it's all too late , is life like this?

Legends of the Fall quotes

  • Colonel Ludlow: Indians! Indians were the issue in those days. I can assure you, gentlemen, there is nothing quite so grotesque as the meeting of a child with a bullet; or an entire village slaughtered while sleeping. That was the Government's resolution of that particular issue and I have seen nothing in its behavior since then that would persuade me that it has gained either in wisdom, common sense, or humanity.

  • [Regarding Tristan's departure]

    Susannah: Will he come back?

    Colonel Ludlow: I don't know.

Colonel Ludlow: [One Stab speaks Cree] Stab says yes.
