The crowd-pleasing actioner reunites Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz since they shared the screen in Vanilla Sky in 2001. Now in this movie the two visibly aging stars (especially the once hottie Diaz) fly all over the world to escape two sets of adversaries, who try to snatch a battery with enormous power from them.
Unlike such professional agents as Mr. and Mrs. Smith, car restorer Diaz gets involved in this international intrigue only after an inadvertent encounter with the charismatic and lethal operative Cruise at the airport. But she soon gets skilled enough to help her partner dodge assassins and protect the power source.
Directed by James Mangold, Knight and Day is capable of cheering up both men and women. Male audiences may find it a satisfactory watch with wild motor chases and eye-popping manoeuvres while the female side might even want to be kidnapped by Tom Cruise and join the globe-trotting adventure.
Although Cruise doesn't have a chance in Knight and Day to prove that he can act, it's definitely sure that he can entertain. A sound mind in a sound body, the lead actor never loses his cool. He even unhurriedly walks to Diaz giving her a kiss, despite dozens of bullets flying around him. Of course, it makes the movie light on plausibility but it's certainly acceptable as a piece of entertaining fluff.
If you don't give credit to Tom Cruise's acting, you can at least put Oprah Winfrey's couch in storage. And if fun and laughter is all you seek in a summer flick, you can walk out of the movie feeling you've got what you paid for.
On my 1-to-10 movie scale, I give Knight and Day a SEVEN.
