British people's sense of humour doesn't need awards

It is said that relying on the superb performance of the actors to tell the simplest stories wonderfully is the skill of British filmmakers. Another Year is clearly a strong argument for this claim. The shooting method is not fancy at all, but the film is just as lively and interesting. The foundation of the script makes people sigh inwardly. The lines are witty and humorous, concise and lively, and every sentence can give the characters an edge. Actor scheduling is the most successful point. It is no exaggeration to say that every actor who has lines has brought their performances into full play. You clearly know that they are actors, but the characters they create are so natural that you think they are ordinary people, but they are obviously ordinary people, and the characters are very distinctive.
"Another Year" did not win any awards at the end. I can only understand that the judges are too optimistic about his next market. But Leslie Manville didn't win Best Actress, and I feel sorry for her. She was very successful in creating a character. Note, not just acting, but shaping. She endows the characters with their own body, language, expressions, emotions. Artistically, I don't think anyone in this film can match her performance, and her role as Mary is more impressive than any other female character (Yoon Jung Hee came in second, but she didn't jump out of the script, it's the character's own good luck) ); technically, Leslie should at least be tied with Binoche.
Well, then she is at least the actress in my heart this year. "Another Year" is also the best film of the year in my heart!

Another Year quotes

  • Gerri: Life's not always kind, is it?

    Mary: No, it isn't Gerri.

  • Ken: Young people, young people. Everything's for young people. Those bars, you know, they're full of young people shouting about nothing.
