The title of this review is determined as "The Embarrassment of Tradition", because according to my own understanding, "tradition" is the soul of this film. This anachronistic old teacher is tradition incarnate.
This is an old movie, and the environment where the story takes place is also the kind of traditional boys' school. I don't know if it's correct because I didn't see any female students appearing. This traditional place, the traditional environment, is so matched with the traditional old teachers. But this match is so awkward. Because people in the venue, except the old teachers, are already starting to move away from tradition. And old teachers are also "expelled" by this environment.
The old teacher was a stern person, old-fashioned, even called "Hitler". The old teacher is also a person who is not good at saying "NO", and in the eyes of his wife, he is only a promise. His life seems to be so miserable, abandoned by society, and he has not met a wife who can understand him.
I don't want to speak for tradition, because that's how human society develops. There is no good or bad, no right or wrong. Only nostalgia and nostalgia. But reality is a more real existence.
The old teacher's last speech did not impress me too much, because I am already a member far from tradition. The old teachers say goodbye to this school, and the society is also saying goodbye to the old teachers.
Tradition is slowly withdrawing from the stage of history, or exists in a new way. As history, tradition is real.
