vegetable crime

I couldn't watch it halfway through, but I persisted to the end with professionalism, and then I was sure that this was indeed a complete bad film.
I checked the director's works, and they were all youthful and vulgar comedies. No wonder the film has a taste of American pie as soon as it comes out. Once such directors care about a good script, tragedy will occur. As a loyal viewer of dark movies, I really feel sorry for the script.

A crime theme was made into a puppet show. All the children are characterless, including the victim Sylvia. It seems that these people have been domesticated in their previous lives, and there is only one word in the dictionary. What's even more amazing is that from the two-year-old child to the eldest teenager, their intelligence is all low. When tormenting people, it's like playing at home, and when people finally cool down, they start to exclaim and burst out with infinite sympathy. Typical soap comedy play. I admire all the young actors who are willing to make this film, full of determination to self-destruct.

As for the mother who was nominated for the XXX Award, the best thing in the film is fake coughing and pretending to be weak. It is not difficult to find the original materials of the case, and it is not difficult to find that this mother is a nervous, low-literate, irritable, jealous, and violent guy. The mother in the film has an intellectual and aloof face. She is so weak that she needs to live in a nursing home. She is always worried that she has no money but never works. She doesn't seem to care about anyone except for family meetings. So she seems reluctant to abuse Sylvia for her daughter. It also makes no sense to assume that she loves face and is nervous about public opinion, which leads to venting her anger on the child. Because she hardly met a few people in the film, she was inexplicable every time she got angry. I wonder if the actors have no comprehension barriers when they read the script? What the director wanted to present was an unconscious crime, but it turned out that an unconscious person was committing a crime.

The case has been dubbed "the most horrific crime to ever happen in Indiana." It's a shame I didn't choose to go to the wiki and spent over an hour drowning myself. I was reluctant to talk about this kind of rubbish, but out of respect for the case, I sincerely suggest that if you are interested in this case and hold grievances against the characters, it is more effective to read the case reports directly.

An American Crime quotes

  • Gertrude Baniszewski: You know what it's like to be sick, Sylvia. I've been sick for so long, too. I can't... discipline my kids they was I should. I punish them I know, but... sometimes with my medicine I gets so I don't know what I'm doing.

    [begins to cry]

Gertrude Baniszewski: And I care for them so much. Paula, the thing is... Paula's a lot like me. I had her when I was just about your age. Then Stephanie. Then all the others. Then John left... And here I am on medicine, doing whatever I can to keep my family together. I want something better for Paula... There has to be something better... And I need to protect my children...

    [cries]

Gertrude Baniszewski: Do you understand that? You kids... you're all I've got... Thank you, Sylvia. Thank you for understanding, thank you.

  • Sylvia Likens: She sacrificed me to protect her children, and she sacrificed her children to protect herself.
