Thought of Chinatown

The name Chinatown and the dialogue in the movie may make many people uncomfortable. In my opinion, Chinatown is a symbol, nothing more, just like the Italian quarter of New York, but it happens to be called Chinatown here. Then, it reminds me of my hometown, which is very similar to this Chinatown, dirty, messy, and poor. The traffic lights are basically decorations; there is a woman at the alley who always likes to pour her own footwash on the road; when I was in junior high school, one day when I was about to go out at the entrance of the teaching building, a saliva fell from the sky, just below the bottom. On the steps; the street is full of dust and spit; when it rains, the alley becomes a pot of slimy mud soup; the trees on the roadside are covered with a thick layer of ash, and I don’t know where it comes from No matter whether it is sunny or rainy, there are always a few large pieces of mud stuck to the body of the bus; the summer sun burns the iron-clad flyover hot...There have also been several celebrities in this city, and their names are in high schools. There seems to be shining light in modern history; the art of curse by the people of this city is even more breathtaking, so it is famous throughout the province. There used to be many large state-owned enterprises here, but they are now basically bankrupt; people still come and go in the streets, and there are still customers in the small restaurants, drinking, playing cards, and playing mahjong. In the past few years, a new railway station has been built, and many new residential areas have been built. In a few days, it will be assimilated by the old city. A closer look is still inexplicable. The last time I went back to my hometown was last year. On Hongqi Road, the road was very narrow, so the buildings on both sides looked very tall. Since I can remember things, it has been like this. Now I have the urge to take a camera to take a picture of it, but this year it seems not going back. Many times, my dad and I agreed that the only bright spot in this city is rice noodles; he wanted to sell a house by the Zijiang River, and walked by the river with my mother every night, very close to my grandmother’s house, and she lived there. On the edge of the river, on the opposite side is a real beach.
Leaving intermittently and returning intermittently, I don't think I understand words such as leaving home. I can always find some shadows of her elsewhere. As for her soul, there may be so few strands of her remaining on my body.
It's not just Los Angeles that has Chinatown.

America's unintelligible film of the 70s, film noir. Think of the WG who knew nothing about China in that era. There were such movies in the United States. Although due to cultural reasons, many places do not understand, but I like this black tone. I like this kind of plot against the power, although the power still wins in the end~

I saw on HBO that Nicholson was still young in 1974, a private investigator. Suspense reveals shady and unknown past events. As a dark metaphor, Chinatown leads directly to the tragic ending of the story. Dam incidents, criminal incidents, political conspiracies, and family ethics are all linked together, with weak reasoning and weak movements, but the metal soundtrack in the 1970s created a unique sense of tension and enhanced the pleasure of watching movies.

Chinatown quotes

  • Jake Gittes: Hello, Claude. Where'd you get the midget?

  • Lt. Escobar: You must really think I'm stupid, don't you, Gittes.

Jake Gittes: I don't think about it that much, but gimme a day or two and I'll get back to yuh. Now I'd like to go home.

Lt. Escobar: I want the other pictures, Gittes.

    Jake Gittes: What pictures?

Lt. Escobar: THIS broad hired you, not Evelyn Mulwray.

    Jake Gittes: Yeah?

Lt. Escobar: Yeah. Somebody wanted to shake Mulwray down; she hired you. That's how come you found out he was murdered.

Jake Gittes: I heard it was an accident.

Lt. Escobar: C'mon, Gittes. The hell d'you think you're dealing with? A bunch of assholes? Mulwray had salt water in his lungs. You were following him day and night; you SAW who killed him. You even took pictures of it. It was Evelyn Mulwray, and she's been payin' you off like a slot machine ever since.

Jake Gittes: You accusin' me of extortion?

    Lt. Escobar: Absolutely!

Jake Gittes: I don't think I need a day or two; you're dumber than you think I think y'are.
