The protagonist's fear and unfamiliarity with the Indians from the beginning gradually developed into mutual attraction, and then to a firm friendship later, which is worth appreciating. The wolf in the film also shows the same characteristics as the Indians. The end part of the film is indeed very distressing. The Indians kept shouting "you will always be my friend" on the hillside, echoing the wolf howling on the cliff, and it felt good.
The 1990 movie, I recommend watching it if you have time and patience.
