Where is the disappointment? I feel that the whole film has an "unnatural" feeling in it.
The history of the Maya should be a relatively flattering subject. It used to be a mystery of brilliance, brutality and splendor, but this drama is not a historical drama, nor is it romantic. The rough impression is a "Mayan version of the first blood" (of course, the connotation is more). Although the producers worked hard to create the original Mayan flavor, they did not show much of that ancient nation's style. The main body is still the praise of the lone hero of American "stubborn individualism". And the once prosperity of the Maya, the last impression left to the audience, apart from the cruelty of the living people sacrifice to the sky, how much is left?
There are also some small details. Although they are harmless to the whole of the film, they dilute the heavy meaning. The waterfall leaped down... Although it had little effect on the whole story, it gave it the frivolousness of an action movie...
In addition, the tribe where the tiger's claws are located is still drinking blood, but in the city. The Maya in China not only have magnificent buildings and a crowded market, but also thieves, beggars, and prostitutes. Is the “difference between urban and rural areas” too big?
But the film is different from ordinary superficial works. For example, at the end, the tiger's paw during the relocation sees the Spanish sailing ship on the sea: the sunset-like Mayan kingdom is about to withdraw from the stage of history, and the day when the Christian civilization shines is about to come.
