The author's description considers things from the perspective of a literati—or, more likely, a victor who fails to take into account the heroic fighting and honor-seeking spirit of Nazi German soldiers throughout history—or may be deliberately ignored. Perhaps the purpose of this spirit was to demean the performance of German soldiers in World War II?
