my own opinion

I started watching this movie for the simple reason that I just wanted to see how this dude was going crazy. However, what he said in his son's classroom may be very outrageous in the eyes of teachers or many people, but I don't think it's wrong: don't believe what others tell you, you have to judge for yourself.

When it first started, this movie reminded me of Lord of War. When I saw that movie, I wanted to say that they were not wrong.
If there were no cigarette sellers, would there be no cigarettes in the world? Why not shut down all tobacco factories and blame the cigarette sellers?
If there are no wine sellers, will there be no drunkards in the world?
Would the world be peaceful without gun sellers?
...
these ideas are as ridiculous as hating actors who play villains on TV.

It's not covered in the movie, but I want to say, I'm in this business, but I try not to let teenagers smoke, not to let pregnant women smoke... but this seems a bit naive, alas. In fact, I just want to say that there will always be people who will do many things, not Zhang San or Li Si, that's how things are.

Whether smoking is good or bad is actually nothing to discuss. It is worth exploring whether your view on everything is conformity or your own true opinion? your own opinion~ The dialectical relationship of things is destined to have both good and bad sides, and cigarettes are no exception.
In the end, Nick chose another endorsement item with the same purpose - a mobile phone. awesome. He's a lobbyist, not really. He is reminding the world of the two sides of things.

A very funny episode is the ruthless use of the female reporter and the ruthless abandonment of the boss. The so-called journalist who exposes "justice", and the villain who regards interests as everything. (Actually, this was set up when he took credit to the big boss to say that the Hollywood movie star smoking idea was his own)
I couldn't help but laugh, everyone said Nick was the murderer. however, who is fucked indeed?

The final plot is also very interesting, explaining the ending of each guy. very nice. Very American.

It's so upright. Obviously Nylar forgot that Yi was a reporter.

Thank You for Smoking quotes

  • Nick Naylor: [Narrating] Few people on this planet know what it is to be truly despised. Can you blame them? I earn a living fronting an organizing that kills one thousand two hundred human beings a day; twelve hundred people. We're talking two jumbo jet plane loads of men, women, and children. I mean there's Attila, Genghis, and me, Nick Naylor the face of cigarettes, the colonel sanders of nicotine. This is where I work, the Academy of Tobacco Studies. It was established by seven gentlemen you may recognize from C-Span. These guys realized quick if they were gonna claim cigarettes were not addictive they better have proof. This is the man they rely on, Erhardt Von Grupten Mundt. They found him in Germany. I won't go into the details. He's been testing the link between nicotine and lung cancer for thirty years, and hasn't found any conclusive results. The man's a genius, he could disprove gravity. Then we got our sharks. We draft them out of Ivy League law schools and give them timeshares and sports cars. It's just like a John Grisham novel. Well you know without all the espionage. Most importantly we got spin control. That's where I come in. I get paid to talk. I don't have an MD or law degree. I have a baccalaureate in kicking ass and taking names. You know that guy who can pick up any girl, I'm him on crack.

  • Polly Bailey: [in a restaurant, referring to Heather] You didn't tell her about us, did you?

Nick Naylor: Who? Heather? No!... I mean, maybe in passing.

    Polly Bailey: In passing.

Bobby Jay Bliss: Oh God, he fucked her. I tried to warn you...

Polly Bailey: Hey, he didn't fuck her. You didn't fuck her, did you?

    [Nick doesn't answer]

    Polly Bailey: When?

    Bobby Jay Bliss: In passing.
