Another victim of new technology

There were two box office flops last year, "The Golden Compass" and "Beowulf." The investment of hundreds of millions has not been recovered. Coincidentally, both films are magical epic themes that once helped film companies make big box office profits. I wonder if this means the end of the era of magical epic films.
The story is of course epic - it is said to be the earliest narrative poem in the UK, and many magical themes, including "The Lord of the Rings", are more or less inspired by this legend. What is worth exploring is the shooting method of this film. The film takes advantage of star power in publicity, especially Angelina Jolie's alluring carcass. Actually, that's not the case at all. The director of "Forrest Gump" suddenly thought of making a technologically innovative film after being unknown for many years. Cough, to put it bluntly, it is a full 3D CG animation using portrait capture technology. It's silly, it's true that the face captures the face of the star, but everything else in the film is made by computer. Jolie was still full when the film was filmed. Where can I show you naked. The "Final Fantasy" in the early years was a complete failure, and although this film played the star card, the ending was not much better. It seems that this kind of highly virtual CG movie has not been recognized by most audiences, but this is indeed the development trend of the world film industry. As for this film, it is just a victim in the history of film technology revolution.

Beowulf quotes

  • Unferth: Good night, Beowulf. Watch out for sea monsters. I'm sure your imagination must be teeming with them.

  • Yrsa: They say he ripped the monster's limb off with his bare hands.

Gitte: [giggles] I wonder if Beowulf's strength is only in his arms, or in his legs as well... all three of them

    [both giggle]

Wealthow: Well, after the feast tonight I'm sure you can find out, Gitte.

Gitte: Me? It's not me he wants, my queen.
