1. Sean Penn's
"Mystic River" won the 76th Oscar for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor Award. Let’s talk about the male protagonist Sean Penn. In the film, he showed the love of a father for his daughter to the fullest with his rich expressions, powerful gestures, and tearful performances. When he tried to break through the obstruction to see his daughter in the park, he shouted, broke free, roared like a lion until his throat became hoarse, and the audience was shocked. When he confirmed the identity of his daughter, he calmly said: "It's her." After a pause, he said, "It's Katie." At this moment, he tilted his head slightly to the upper left and looked straight ahead blankly and said, "It's my daughter." The increase showed that his bleeding heart tried hard to hold back the sorrow, and the subtle movements of gritted teeth were portrayed in place. After meeting Xio, the gritted teeth, fierce eyes, and twitching muscles were completely on his face. After a simple greeting with Dave, I slowly turned to miss my daughter. The eyes were gradually filled with tears, the waving arms, the words every word, recalling the loneliness of embracing my daughter from prison, made me cry . When he saw his daughter for the last time, he wanted to kiss her daughter and suddenly stopped helpless. The firmness of the murderer and the gentleness to her daughter were intertwined on his face. When I learned that Dave was killed by mistake, the body's weakness and trembling, the look of weakness and regret, all performed so well and perfectly.
Of course, Tim Robbins, who played Dave and won the best actor, also has wonderful acting skills, so I will ignore it here.
2. Analyze a little bit about the shooting. The
film shooting is pretty good in terms of transition, camera position, light and so on. Here I only make a brief analysis of the two scenes at the beginning of the film: Dave and Jamie appearing 25 years later.
At the beginning of the film, the plot of the three people was filmed in colors between color and black and white when they were young. After fading in and out, the colors become brighter. We know that it is back to "reality" at this moment (the film does not have subtitles for 25 years). The camera was lowered from high to low. Dave took his son through the street at the beginning of the film, and Dave stopped on the side of the street. Panoramic and panning. Behind him is the building reflecting the dazzling light. In contrast, Dave's face is solemn and motionless. We can imagine that this lingering psychological shadow cannot be penetrated by the strong light behind him. Dave walked from the bright background to the cement board. The cement board had a close-up: it was engraved with the names of Jamie and Sean and his unfinished name. When the plane was raised, Dave's head was slightly tilted, and the nightmare flashed back, but he immediately controlled the nightmare with his consciousness to continue. Leaving with his son. This short opening accounted for a wealth of content. Dave got married and had children, but he could not escape the shadows. He suffered every day, as Dave said: "Once it enters, it will stay there forever."
Jamie's The appearance is also the last scene with his daughter, and the director is very careful in shooting. We saw the light hitting the faces of father and daughter in the dark room, very soft, showing a kind father and caring father's daughter. The last time the daughter looked at the father's picture, the whole person was at the golden section line, which looked solemn and beautiful. With the gentle light, the whole lens was like an oil painting. Their farewell words are "Later", the useless Bye and See you, full of irony, this is their last goodbye (forever). This scene obviously puts the audience in the identity of the prophet in the narrative structure of the film, and has a foreboding that Jamie's daughter may encounter misfortune.
3. Three families
"Mystic River" is a thriller and suspense film, the case is naturally the highlight, and the director also has considerable skill in portraying the three families. Jamie's current wife not only loves Jamie, but also a booster of Jamie's success. She strengthens Jamie's confidence in life. The scene portrays the posture of a strong woman. Dave's wife is a suspicious person. It is her distrust of her husband that put Dave to death step by step, but how can we easily blame such a wife who is so nervous and nervous all day long? Sean's wife ran away from home for half a year, and the family reunited after Sean admitted her mistake. In these three families, we all seem to find our own shadows. Regardless of whether the event is right or wrong, life has to go on. The director hinted at the end through Sean's mouth, implying that family is the ultimate destination of people: "I am tired of things being organized, and I am tired of worrying about the dead girls, after her, there will be another one. Send murder To commit to prison is to send those people to the place where they desperately want to go in their lives. The dead can’t be resurrected.”
4. Sky and Mystic River
Sky are shots that appear many times in the movie, and the director skillfully uses them to make transitions, such as escapes. Dave saw the spinning sky in the woods. Jamie's daughter took pictures of the sky after driving away. The sky after Jamie's heartbreaking cry was shot. After Jamie shot Dave, it turned from white to sky. The sky is vast and ethereal. It is ethereal and therefore erratic, reflecting the tremor of people's heart, the restlessness of the atmosphere, and the blankness of the mind, all of which have played a role in the development of the plot and the adjustment of the rhythm.
Mystic River is the title, but not the environment in which the story develops. Its most important role in the film is to echo from the beginning to the end. The switch shot of the film is a distant view. The houses by the river are full of three-quarters of the picture, and only the mysterious river and the bridge over the river are slightly exposed at the top. At the end of the film, the Mystic River finally shows its depth and breadth. According to Jamie, Dave has been asleep in the river, so we see the Mystic River flowing slowly, continuing to witness the joys and sorrows of the town. And helpless.
