"Hanging the sheep's head and selling dog meat" - a movie-watching note of "The Rear Window Horror"

What made me watch this was when I searched online and found that it stayed on the box office charts (at the time) for a long time. Makes me think it should be a good movie.

Maybe it's because of the type of movie I like, I don't generally like watching horror movies or thrillers or anything like that. I always think that horror or thriller movies are made in the studio, a kind of artificial horror. Especially for some American horror movies, some bloody human heads, stumps and the like made with cheap ketchup or computer tricks make me feel sick and nauseous, not so scary. I feel that some domestic horror films such as "Painted Skin" and "Liao Zhai" (of course all refer to the previous old versions) are more thrilling and terrifying because of the sound and atmosphere created by them.

This "Rear Window Horror", which is positioned as a thriller, didn't make me feel so terrifying or terrifying after watching it. I was prepared, so I felt that the thrilling atmosphere was a little lacking. The whole film is more like a youth entertainment romance. Those spooky scenes are just a small episode in between. To put it in a nasty way, it is "hanging the sheep's head and selling dog meat".

Looking at the whole film, the colors are bright and the light is full. Two-thirds of the length of the film in a few years is to pave the way for Kyle's voyeurism and the emotional development of the hero and heroine. The act of catching him is, in my opinion, a necessary additive to the development of the hero and heroine's emotional line, and plays a secondary auxiliary role.

However, the film's creation of a thrilling atmosphere is still much stronger than some American horror films I have seen before. There are basically no bloody murder scenes in the whole film, and more attention is paid to an atmosphere, especially when Kyle enters the murderer's house.

I saw some netizens' comments on the Internet, and many people mentioned the movie "Rear Window". Sadly, I haven't seen the movie, so I can't compare the two. But as you can see from those reviews, the vast majority of people don't think it can beat that movie.

Mentioning the plot of this film reminds me of a comedy "Home Alone 3". The two are very similar in the storyline. They are both locked at home for some reason (court judgment/illness), and then use binoculars to peek at the surrounding residents, accidentally discover criminals, and then notify the police. There are inspections, but unfortunately nothing is found, and the responsible party is out of nothing, even their family members do not believe him. In desperation, he had to make his own moves, and finally won the victory, released his previous suspicions with his family, and the police also gave certain benefits, resulting in a happy ending. However, compared to "Home Alone 3", this film seems to want to highlight some horror and horror atmospheres. Unfortunately, the sense of shock is not enough, and the description of the love scene is not delicate enough. And "Little" is more successful in capturing the comedy and funny elements in it.

I also watched an American horror film "Scream I-III" some time ago. I personally think that both are horror films. In contrast, whether it is the creation of a thrilling atmosphere or the level of ideological connotation , and the portrayal of characters, "Scream" is much better than "Rear Window", although I don't really like the "Scream" series.

This film stayed on the US box office charts for a few weeks, in my opinion, not how well the film was made, but because the film deals with the subject of horror and voyeurism, precisely those two things Satisfy the curiosity and relatively empty hearts of many audiences.

Maybe it's because I'm not very fond of horror films, so I can't evaluate this film very objectively, but I'm just writing down my thoughts and chatting to forget my worries.
