Looking at it now, I won't first divide the good and the bad. Is Javert really bad? Neither. Like Li Ya, Javert has Javert's pursuit, and he has been pursuing Jean Valjean tirelessly for so many years. What's more sad is that over the years, Javert's unknowing change (or awakening?) destroyed himself. Also, in the end, it is empty, how many people can face up to the disillusionment and nothingness of their beliefs?
By contrast, Jean Valjean was much luckier. His life is more at the level of survival, and escaping and surviving are the top priorities. Moreover, for former prisoners, society and the public have low expectations, so a small act of kindness is enough to win people's hearts and trust. In his life, Jean Valjean encountered many unrighteous people, but there were also good people who influenced him with the generosity of spring wind and rain. Also because of his past hardships, he can experience the same group of people. The most commendable thing is Jean Valjean's strength and commitment. These personal qualities, more important than wealth and fame, brought Jean Valjean to his ultimate consummation: neither rival nor friend, before him, could be praised, admired or ashamed.
Shawshank's redemption was completed when he escaped from prison and lived in seclusion on a small island. Jean Valjean's redemption was hidden in his heart all his life, and the prison was just a wall that was not difficult for him to overcome. Jean Valjean's redemption is stronger than Shawshank's, because it benefits not just the escaped companions, but all the people around them who need help. Only in this way can it be called complete.
