The film is especially relevant in today's context, as it follows an international police pursuit of an insider on a transnational banking crime. "Multinational bank" has two meanings. One is that it has a global background, and the film is also shot across multiple countries; the other is that it directly refers to the internal problems of the financial system. Some people have extended to say that Tekway heralded the arrival of the financial crisis, or at least disclosed a lot of information about the financial crisis. But in reality, Tykwer just made a movie of his own heart.
Tekway has always been fascinating in terms of camera design and storytelling. In the age of video games, it has more game sense, full of intellectually challenging meaning, fast and crisp. In the opening scene of the film, the murder of a colleague of the international police, played by Owen, comes suddenly but neatly. When the perpetrator approached, only a clean stroke was heard, indicating that he had been attacked. But everything came without warning. When the attacked person fell down, the audience realized that the murderer who had just passed the deceased was a murderer. As a result, the experience of watching the movie and the experience of the people in the play quickly reached an agreement, and the brain started to run at a high speed, "Who is that person, and how did he do it?" This is the director's shrewdness. All of his experience was invested in the film, which attracted all the attention of the audience from the very beginning.
The film shows Tykwer's difference in several fight scenes. When the film's protagonist, international policeman Louis Salinger, first confronts the killer, he tracks the killer on foot. Just like the other heroes, he was able to chase the killer's car after running wild. Tekway's wisdom appeared again. Salinger was not facing a car, but a traffic flow that stopped at a red light, a large line of vehicles that were indistinguishable from reality, and the murderer among them. When he focused on finding the murderer's car from the clues, the traffic started to move, and the hearts of the audience were in their throats, because the murderer's ruthless heart and Salinger's strength were weak, but Tekway did not let Salinger go naked like other heroes. Hand-to-hand combat, but let the murderer leave early and alertly. It is taken away from the previous types and routines at once. Facing the empty car, Salinger lost his mind for a long time.
There is also a very exciting highlight. Salinger encounters the murderer he has been tracking, but the murderer is eliminated by the group because of the exposure of his identity. So the murderer is instantly transformed into Salinger's ally, and the two join forces against a powerful enemy. The murderer was seriously injured. Salinger hit the ceiling of the lobby at a critical moment. The huge ceiling hit the two murderers in the lobby. Salinger took advantage of the chaos to leave the building through the back door. The building is worthy of description. The exhibition hall with literary atmosphere and the revolving projections on the ceiling are all lively figures showing the beauty of life. And crime and gunfights tear it all apart, destroying the beauty of life and art.
Salinger had been hesitant to kill the leaders behind the scenes, but Tykwer had already arranged the death of those people in his heart. We caught Salinger's absent-mindedness once again when the fake hands removed these people. The hero no longer appears to be omnipotent, he is also passive and helpless.
Contingency has always been the beauty of cinema, but Tykwer interprets it as a song of opportunity. When Salinger and his partner arrived at an address and it was impossible to find the killer, his partner went to the store opposite to buy coffee, but the killer passed by the coffee shop. It was an ascension and had a Christian-like sense of destiny. This is the feeling of the game that started with "Lola Run". Someone once said that "Tikway has an almost crazy spirit", but it should be said that Tekway has always had a game mentality. Tykwer combines his stated intentions in a simple typed film, so it is widely recognized and popularized by the public.
