Master's Kung Fu - "Ip Man"

I haven't written a movie review in a long time. It's rare that you can't write immediately after reading it like this. I watched "Ip Man" the day before yesterday. Together with G, they had a mutton hot pot in a festive atmosphere. After watching it steamingly, the total feeling was: not bad.

Today, I saw an article in Sanlian Weekly, which is not a film review, mentioning Ye Weixin's own original intention. Pretty sure. Later, I saw some film reviews in Tianya. Of course, there are praises, but I always feel that they are just scratching the surface, and there are also many critics, which are completely different.

In fact, for a while, I was more disgusted with films that directly used the name of the film as the title of the film. One is that it seems to be too shallow and superficial, the other is that it is too hasty, and the third is that if the person is not famous enough, he will think that he is exaggerating, and if he is too famous, he is too lazy.

Not all character films or character theories are suitable for simple and direct use of names. I write film and book reviews myself, and I almost never use the title of the film or the book directly.

There are two character films recently, one is "Mei Lanfang" and the other is "Ip Man". The first one could well be named that way. But who is Ye Man? Perhaps before watching the film, people who knew it were not widely known.

Hong Kong kung fu movies are considered a very eye-catching category. People who watch Ip Man put Ip Man in this category in advance, and they are probably disappointed.

Yes, Ip Man's theme is kung fu, but kung fu is not the core of the film. Let's take a look at the views of several main characters in the film on kung fu.

Jinshan Zou, a very important character in the film, the protagonist of the two protagonists, and one of the main supporting roles of Ip Man. He said that he looked down on Wing Chun the most, the founder was actually a woman, and the man who practiced the boxing created by the woman was still so good at it, which made people laugh out loud. Of course this northern reckless man doesn't understand. For him, kung fu is just a skill. He traveled thousands of miles to Foshan to find people to compete in martial arts for the sake of fame and fortune. Kung fu is just a "tool", and if you change other skills, it's just a "tool", a craftsmanship. Moreover, the rules of his use of this craft are: bullying. The first time I went to the martial arts hall, it was the same, and the second time I robbed the cotton factory. This person does not even have a basic view of right and wrong, and belongs to the type of people who are fanatical about domination. However, often such people are quite powerful.

Master Liao, the representative of the martial arts master, and the second of Ip Man's main supporting roles. He should be the most powerful among the masters in the Foshan martial arts hall, so he came to provocation at the beginning. However, he was greedy for fame and gain, hypocritical and irresponsible, and also used kung fu as a tool to make a living. Slightly better than Jinshan, he has his own image.

General Miura, a Japanese military-loving officer, is one of Ip Man's main supporting roles. As the only Kung Fu character that can rival Ip Man, he is better than Jinshan Search and Master Liao in his understanding of Kung Fu. But this layer of understanding only stays at the level of personal cultivation. He respects kung fu or martial arts, which he regards as a knowledge, a knowledge, a career, a hobby, an ideal, and so on that require full dedication. But at the right time, he would still use this knowledge, which is easily reduced to a skill, to hurt others without any hesitation, and thus easily slipped to the opposite of the inner purpose of martial arts: bullying the weak.

Wu Chi Lin, Ip Man's secondary supporting role. A typical little person has a typical Chinese style of confusion, and a little wealth is at ease. At the same time, in Lu Xun's words, he has a vague self-examination and self-awareness. He has considerable respect and envy for Kung Fu. There is the amazing power brought by kung fu, there is also a spiritual instinctive yearning, and there is obviously admiration for Ye Wen himself. This vague definition makes him neither fanatical about kung fu, nor has the most profound belief and understanding, so he is destined to learn only one punch and a half, and he is more than self-defense, and the competition is greatly inferior.

Li Zhao, Ip Man's secondary supporting role. Typical of the status-seeking little guy. Vanity and timidity, no orientation. Seeing Ye Wen's prestige defeating Jinshanzhao, he was also eager to try it; the Japanese were majestic and depended on the Japanese to make a living. He had many reasons, and he didn't make it up by himself, but the truth was that he was indeed an unbelievable and leftist. But the right person, he has nothing to say about kung fu, nor does he have any pursuit, in fact, he is the same with life. All he has is a little conscience that a person has. This kind of person often ends up being more down-to-earth.

Zhou Qingquan, Ip Man's secondary supporting role. He is a businessman. At first, I didn't take kung fu seriously, but I just thought it was quite majestic and wanted my son to learn a trick and a half. When he really suffered a loss, he began to realize the importance of kung fu in troubled times. But he is still very isolated about kung fu. On the contrary, his son didn't make many appearances, and he didn't have many scenes, but his respectful and polite calm and cleverness made me think that he might be a good disciple of Ye Wen.

Mrs. Ye, the main supporting role of Ye Wen and the secondary supporting role of Kung Fu. Why paint a generation of martial arts masters who are afraid of their wives? Ye Weixin's idea is: to restore the true person. I think this is certainly one of them. Another very important point: contrast and conflict. Contrast and conflict are a magic weapon for all literary and artistic works to create attractiveness. What's more, the Chinese have always been the type of men who appreciate "chivalrous bones and soft intestines". Perhaps the first half of Ip Man seems to be a little far from this idiom. It seems too ordinary, too homely, too polite, and even a little bit slick, so Jinshan finds it directly as "fear of a wife" to define it, which is a kind of ridicule Ye Wen immediately retorted: There are no men who are afraid of their wives, only men who know how to respect their wives. Therefore, Mrs. Ye reflects Ye Wen's personality very well: she knows how to respect. Know how to respect kung fu, respect your wife, respect your peers, respect provocation... People with high kung fu should know more about self-control. Ye Wen can do it, but the like-minded Master Liao can't do it, Jinshan can't find it, so they won't become masters, not only can't their legs and feet work, but more importantly, they can satisfy them when they get to work. When there is a demand, it is destined to reach an unbreakable bottleneck and can no longer go up.

Madam Ye is against kung fu. As she herself confessed, she hopes her husband can accompany her every day, so she hates him to practice martial arts, and even more hate those who come to provoke or apprentice. She is a virtuous wife, she loves her husband and children, and is gentle and dissatisfied Nor can Hedong roar, just wink. Although I didn't understand my husband, at that time, it was enough. What's more, she is not stupid and numb. Ye Wen and Jin Shan Xia Chu Chu played against each other for a few rounds. She asked her son to come out and spread the word: If you don't do anything, everything in the house will be smashed. Very cold humor. In the end, in the midst of chaos and family ruin, she suddenly understood her husband. That moment was really great and touching. I believe that Ip Man later moved to Hong Kong, opened a museum to teach martial arts, and finally became a master of the generation, without the support of Mrs. Ye.

This is a film that seems to be slow and idle, but is actually compact and logical. Each character has played its own role, and it has a three-dimensional color to express the "Wulin Master". Power is very high. I love the rhythm and style of the whole film. It is very elegant, and Donnie Yen handles it very well. From the beginning, he gestured to his wife flatteringly: It will be fine soon, and people will be caught from here. He lived a very real life, and his heart was very powerful - kung fu should not only increase people's physical strength, but more importantly, make people have a stronger heart: strong control, strong ego, Extremely strong is non-decision, extremely strong action. This film did not shoot him until he really became a master, but the charm and influence of the master have fully exploded. At least for myself, I have a deeper understanding of the power of the master. Ye Weixin is named after "Ip Man", focusing on expressing his person, a complete person, including his behavior, and more importantly, his heart, his spirit, his beliefs, and his wealth for future generations, not only It's just the unyielding national will. Apart from these metaphysical contents, being polite in the world may be the foundation of human beings. I think the director can try his best to convey to this level, it should be worth a thumbs up.

Postscript: I have always disdained Hong Kong films, but this one is an exceptional surprise, and I give it four and a half stars.

Ip Man quotes

  • Miura: [after witnessing Ip Man single-handedly defeat ten Japanese fighters at once] What's your name?

Ip Man: I'm just a Chinese man.

  • Ip Man: [hits Lei] Traitor!

Captain Lei Chiu: Why am I a traitor? Their deaths have got nothing to do with me. I'm just an interpreter. I need to scrape a living too!

Ip Man: Scrape a living? You watch your countrymen get beaten to death. Where's your dignity?

    [walks away]

Captain Lei Chiu: I don't have any. You do. You have lots of it. If you have the guts, go beat them! Beat as many as you can! I'm an interpreter, not a traitor...

[throws book to the ground and shouts in Japanese]

Captain Lei Chiu: I'm a Chinese man!
