Sweden is a very introverted place, with precocious puberty in children and premature aging in adults. After the two men met, they didn’t talk much and only drank. Forced by the environment, the whole society is more or less perverted like this, and there are many people who like to appreciate this "special" aesthetics from their works.
This is a screenplay based on a book that takes place in a satellite town north of Stockholm in 1981. To add details that are not in the movie: Eli was born in 1781 and was castrated at the age of 12... The old man is a pedophile and Eli knew him for 3 months. If it goes on, it will probably affect the viewing of the movie, so stop here.
The book touches on some of the darker aspects of society that the movie doesn't. Those who are interested can come and have a look.
