Hopeless

She lived in this dilapidated mansion, even older than this old one, still a luxurious silent film set, the wind lifted the huge curtain, and walked through the leaking organ, making a bleak whimper. She walks through the halls where no one visits every day, and the sound of footsteps is empty and startling. The outdated and old backless evening dresses flicker with sequins, and the make-up is getting thicker and the action is more exaggerated. Apart from the housekeeper, the monkey was her only spectator.

Her life is too long, day after day, day after day, day and night, just blinking and panting, falling ashes and dust, sitting on cobwebs and dying. She lost the sense of time, thinking that no age means no end.

But her monkey finally couldn't stand her and died first.

On this day, she met the writer, an accidental intruder.
From then on she had an interlocutor, and of course she made him one of those admirers, wriggling, swaying, dragging him to dance, watching movies with him, always watching silent films in which she was the heroine.
She wants to pull him into her own world, but he always wants to leave~~

She has a pistol, she warned him, but he doesn't believe it, why not believe it, in the roles she played, she shot Yes, she couldn't believe she fired one shot, he still walked forward, the second shot, he was still trying to pick up his bag, the third shot, and he finally floated in the pool.

What is this? She had kept him, but she was suddenly frightened by her face in the mirror. It seemed that she was suddenly shocked to see her 50 from 20. She was already a dry and rotten branch, and she couldn't help being pulled by anyone.
Then she still went back to put on makeup, and waited for someone to tell her that her scene would start filming soon, ask her to go downstairs, where there are mercury lamps that she has been waiting for longer than her life, there are flashes, there are flashes, there are all her lights~~~~ At the flashing place, she is the attention of everyone, she can't stand turning off the lights, she can only be the ash pile in the shadow of the collapse.

Have you ever tried a completely hopeless wait?
For example, Havisham, who is always sitting beside the wedding cake with mice in Great Expectations, or Norma, who has tried every means to beautify and fight against the years in Sunset Boulevard, what is time?
It was over in a blink of an eye.
But why can't I help but look forward to it, knowing that when I wake up, I will still be in severe pain.

He couldn't help but speculate on the old age that Jiabao and Zhang Ai deliberately closed themselves and faced alone.

The film is entirely in the form of the hero's self-report. At the beginning, there is a paragraph describing the old house. The lines are as follows:

This place is like a big white elephant, the kind of building that the lunatics of the film industry built in the crazy 20th century. Happy, this house exists in the space, like an old woman with great expectations, the Havasun woman, her worn-out wedding dress, and the worn-out veil were revealed in front of the world. Because she was originally delivered to the past~~~

"A magical blend of the occlusion and suffocation of the grand front program, the anthological darkness of Edgar Allan Poe and the pomp of Fitzgerald."

I don't know why I feel like watching "Citizen Kane". The story is very exciting. It is a movie about a movie/filmmaker, but it reflects a lot of things. The flashback narrative through the mouth of the dead is mysterious, absurd, bizarre and pathetic. The final performance in front of the camera is moving. When an actor no longer faces the camera, how will her life continue? Can be seen as a Paramount/Hollywood or film autobiographical work.

Sunset Blvd. quotes

  • Betty Schaefer: I got a telegram from Artie.

Joe Gillis: From Artie? What's wrong?

Betty Schaefer: He wants me to come out to Arizona. He says it only costs two dollars to get married there. It would kinda save us a honeymoon.

  • Joe Gillis: [on the phone] Better yet, why don't you come out and see for yourself. The address is 10086 Sunset Boulevard.
