background not background

I just finished watching the movie "Balzac and the Little Tailor", and I remember seeing the title in a film magazine for the first time, and I take it for granted that it is a glimpse into the life of French literary master Balzac. However, the three familiar names of "Zhou Xun", "Chen Kun" and "Liu Ye" in the starring column add a touch of mystery to this film from mainland China. All these mysteries drove me to search for resources for this film, but I wanted to see how Balzac, the world-renowned literary giant, was connected to a little-known tailor in China.
The film takes the Cultural Revolution as the background of the era, and takes the stories of Luo Ming and Ma Jianling, two educated youths who went to the countryside to jump in line, as the development context of the story. A startling feeling.
Luo Ming and Ma Jianling in the film are undoubtedly the endorsements of the intellectual youth of that era. In response to the country's call, they listened to ignorant production leaders in remote mountainous areas, and struggled with heavy and arduous manual labor. A little spiritual comfort.
Just when their spirits were dying, they met the innocent and beautiful little tailor. In their loneliness and helplessness, the two young men took the little tailor as their spiritual comfort. It's just that the way they pay is different. Roman is hot. Ma Jianling chose to guard silently.
When an era deprives people of the right to speak while also depriving people of the right to listen, the thinking that dominates this era will be an unforgivable mistake, and how unfortunate and sad the people who are illuminated by this kind of thinking will be!
When all the materials related to capitalism were completely banned, the ideas of intellectual youth who yearned for romantic freedom were exhausted. They desperately wanted to get nourishment, but what a luxury at the time this craving seemed to be within reach today! When they learned that the four eyes, who were also educated youths, had a box of foreign classics hidden, Luo Ming and Ma Jianling resolutely abandoned morality and chose to steal as a way to satisfy their desires.
After getting the book, Luo Ming eagerly put on the agenda the desire to change the naive and ignorant little tailor. He read Balzac's works to her, taught her to read, showed her the world, and changed her step by step.
In the days when there were books, they moved the simple and honest villagers with the stories in the books, they softened the stubborn old tailors with the stories in the books, and they also broadened the horizons of the little tailors with the stories in the books. A book, in exchange for an adventurous abortion in an era when the system is more important than life! It can be seen that the intellectuals at that time, wrapped in layers of darkness, still yearned for truth, freedom, justice and ideals in their hearts.
At the end of the film, the departure of the little tailor is a bit unexpected, but it makes sense to think about it carefully. When the heartbroken Luo Ming asked who changed her, the little tailor indifferently spit out "Balzac". Balzac let the innocent little tailor abandon love, just to go out and see the outside world. "Beauty is the capital of a woman", a short sentence, broke Luo Ming's heart, I wonder if he thought about this scene when he was determined to change the little tailor.
Looking at the back of the little tailor leaving, I clearly realized that for a long time, it was Balzac who really changed the little tailor. .
A seemingly love-like film about faith that deals with politics, and made me see things I hadn't seen before. But I would like to believe that love and faith are not the only themes of this movie. Through the movie, we should try to unearth the root of the story, open the hole in that era, and let the sun illuminate the darkness! Background, should be more than just a background!
