There are too many feminist films at the moment - DH, WEEDS, SATC... But this is a man's drama, and that era was originally a very patriarchal era.
There are so many things I don't like about this film, Don Draper's elusiveness, his views on marriage and love, vague selfishness, Pete Campbell's incompetence at work, marriage, family and love, stupid and worthless, Betty's light tone And the housewife's despair, Joan's smart, beautiful but can only be a man's plaything, Helen's 9-year-old perverted son's ugly appearance, Roger's flirting with flowers, Judy's insatiable and insatiable demands, and XX scenes that appear in every episode (Of course XX people keep changing). . . All are desperately struggling in their positions.
I don't even know what kind of force motivates me to keep watching, maybe it's the nostalgic tone of the 50's and 60's, the American dream of the 50's and 60's, how Peggy's growth and success, maybe it's in DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES Familiar faces - the hapless mayor who was boarded to death in the hurricane, Paul, the perverted father of his perverted son (does he look like Bush Jr.). . . Either because I'm bored, or because of the Emmys. . .
I especially like to watch the little people slowly succeed through their own struggles, so I feel normal to Don Draper. Although he is very N in his field, so what, it is still difficult to like him. I like watching episodes about Peggy the most, I like her smart ability to fight for her own life. . . But what I don't understand is - 1. Why does someone as smart as she likes Pete Campbell who is useless and weak and incompetent, 2. In the last episode, Peggy gave birth to a child, why wouldn't she know that she was 9 months pregnant? Is the intention of the director and screenwriter aimed at expressing the lack of sexual knowledge of that era?
I don't know why I contacted DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, but DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES is not DESPERATE at all; and MAD MEN is not MAD at all. The one who is really crazy is Desperate Housewives, the one who feels really desperate is MAD MEN.
