Millions of ideas and thoughts passed through my head, about regulation, about collaboration , about formation of the society, about tolerance, about the treacherous soul of human beings... etc. etc. but what?
At the end of the film, we lost 4, and the only one that stays lays no hand on the box . Yeah, he can watch the box to death(no music as the box is driven by a clockwork spring), but then what's the point of losing his once intimate(we know this because we've seen how well-cooperated they are when keeping the balance) companions for that lonely and bleak scene? Surely it's totally a tragedy. But how does this happen?
People not necessarily own their independent thoughts, but for one time, that the first moment we were formed in our mothers' wombs, we all did. Then things happened, and we came down to earth, following routines, adhering to habits, and going round like a horse in a mill. Whether it's good or bad I don't know, but I know back in our heart, we all keep somehow independent. That's why even the best friends have deep cleave between them, and the cleave becomes deeper and wider when a wedge driven in, like the box in this case. Finally they broke up and one must die.
Maybe there's another ending, that the five sat around the juke box in the middle, put their hands on it and listen happily to the music together. Is this possible? Yes and no. Yes because this is a reasonable situation, all in peace and all in happiness, totally in balance! No because we are people, not one people but 5 different people. It is inhuman and impossible for them to love the box to the sheer same degree. Just not a chance! One budge in an inch or another budge out an inch will cause the balance to break!
So is this lamentable, or is this satirical? I think both, but we should accept this, because this is what human is, and this is why we love each other so much. Every fault has its own beauty, just as the lonely ending, sad but still well in balance~
