Another film that has been famous for too long but I haven't seen it. I found it by accident in eMule, Robert De Niro + Jean Reno - for these two old guys, who can resist " What about Ronin? The 120-minute film can be summed up in almost one word - quiet. There is not a mentally retarded line in the whole film, and almost all communication is completed in the eye movements of De Niro and Reno. No high-tech, no fake cool like in American films today, no gimmicky action and massive gunfights. Even the scheduling of the big scenes is restrained and decent, and there is no suspicion of showing off. Old Mercedes, Audi, Renault, French towns, country roads, street cafes, everything is full of classic flavor. The performances of the old actors are impeccable, and the ronin turns into old-fashioned craftsmen in their hands. Only this time De Niro is more like Reno in "Killer Leon" - a god with a human breath, a knight with a knightly style. Frankly speaking, although I have always liked Renault, this French tough guy is still slightly inferior to De Niro.
Sometimes it's hard to understand how the American film industry, a country without culture, can create Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Robin Williams, Kevin Costner, Hanks ? And a film country that has created "The Teacher", "The Wire", "The Assassination of Kennedy", "Raging Bull", "Forrest Gump" and "Perfect World", why are almost all movies today so bad? Just like if you don't know Chen Kaige, you can never imagine that "Wuji" and "Farewell My Concubine" are from the same director. Maybe this is the result of the industrialization of literature and art. After the classics, a piece of innovation brought by the big machine age is left behind. In the past few years, I have never seen such a profound American film. Maybe the company that once created countless classics should really change its name. 20th Century Fox may be called 20th Century Focus. Maybe American movies can only be the focus of the last century.
