Several young students in Munich, unwilling to be the "silent majority", risked their lives to distribute leaflets at the university in order to awaken people to "revolt against tyranny" and oppose the Nazi invasion of Europe, and were unfortunately arrested.
The Gestapo interrogation of Sophie, and the two dialogues in the court trial are the focus of the whole film.
Distributing leaflets, as permitted by law at the time, was a peaceful struggle, not violent terror.
The laws before Hitler came to power protected free speech. But after Hitler came to power, words could be punished, even capital punishment.
The law is to maintain social order. What is the law based on? If this law is against human nature and conscience, should people follow human nature and conscience, or the personal will of the ruler?
Sophie told the interrogators: "The law changes. The conscience does not." "The protection of the law is to protect everyone from despotism, not to follow the crowd." "Did the Nazis, under the guise of freedom and loyalty, Horrible blood sacrifices all over Europe, haven't you opened your eyes yet? Your leader is already insane, and if Hitler is not removed from power in his fledgling and at the same time a new Europe is established, then Germany's Reputation will be disgraced." "I'm talking about morality, morality, and God." "It's not me, but you have a wrong worldview. I'm doing what is best for my people."
In the "people's court", everything seems to be in accordance with the trial procedure, but the law on which the trial is based is evil. The judge sentenced the three to death for disbandment and treason. This is to legally kill dissidents.
Sophie said calmly to the hoarse judge: Today you are here to judge us, and one day you will be judged in this same position. "Today you hang us. Tomorrow, it will be your turn to lose your head."
All those who assume the name of the people will eventually be abandoned by the people.
By convention, the execution of the death penalty is 99 days after the sentence. But that afternoon, the three were beheaded.
The meeting of the three before their generous death brought tears to their eyes twice...
The film is based on a true story. The prototype of the heroine in the film, Sophie Sol, was selected as one of the ten great men of contemporary Germany. The "White Rose Memorial Hall" in the main building of the University of Munich has been visited by an endless stream of visitors.
The film has been nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards and the Berlin Golden Bear Awards, Best Director and Best Actress at the Berlin Silver Bear Awards.
May this film awaken the faint-hearted patriots whose conscience has not yet faded away.
