God and the Devil

Mozart's biography was read for the first time last year, and it has been read more than seven or eight times. Every time I experience something new in Mozart's biography, I see myself and humanity.
The last old image of the musician Salieri is ugly. He was ultimately the incarnation of the devil because he abandoned God. Mozart created brilliance in a short life and made his music immortal. He is the son of God.
The fourth type of Enneagram: the ego type, also known as the artist type. Basic fear: have a unique self-identification or existence; traits: romantic, fantasy, like to express personal feelings through beautiful things; introverted, emotional, easy to be melancholy and self-indulgent, pursuing unique experiences; good times (Yes Unique identity); strong creativity, intuition, inspiration, keen sense of touch, firm stand, serious and humorous; Adversity (when there is no unique identity): self-enclosed, self-destructive, easy to feel helpless and hopeless, playing victim Who sinks into pain. Easily jealous; low self-image; acting as a victim; playing emotional games; extremely seductive (including acting as a slave); emotional; extremely unstable; self-esteem, contempt for people; acting cool; acting big.
Mozart's self-identification is to create perfect works. His talent allows him to do this often, so he can keep feeling good all the time, and it also makes him proud of his talents.
In order to gain the approval of his strict father, Mozart had to study music hard and be able to perform well in his childhood. Later, this father's role will be internalized into the son's consciousness. On the one hand, he continued to create in order to gain the approval of his father; on the other hand, his aversion to his father extended to his contempt for the powerful and powerful he pursued. Of course he despised the musician Salieri. In the eyes of Mozart, Salieri was not only lacking in talent, but the most important thing was the pursuit of power.
Mozart also extended his father's image to the Austrian emperor. After the performance of the opera "Harem Abduction", Mozart looked forward to the emperor's evaluation, and his anger when the emperor said "too many notes" can be seen.
What needs to be added is that the Austrian emperor shown in the movie is an extremely stupid person. Forgetfulness, lack of logic, and of course lack of aesthetic taste. The evaluation of "too many notes" was only the characteristic of Mozart described to him by the director of the opera house, and the emperor accepted it preconceivedly.
"You can only hear so many notes in one night" is a great irony to him, and it is also an irony to Mozart.
Although Mozart was naive, arrogant, and obscene, as he himself said, his heart was full of love. At first it appeared as indiscriminate sex with women, but later it appeared as care for his wife and son, and even an apology to Salieri. The film repeatedly emphasizes the themes of love and forgiveness. Mozart was ridiculed twice when he said "love" when he introduced his work to the court; the recurring theme of the fourth movement of "The Wedding of Figaro" was played by Salieri as "full of forgiveness". When the emperor yawned. This is what the film is about: amadeus, "son of God". The "love" and "forgiveness" in Mozart's works are not understood by the world. And this is where God is.
Let's talk about Salieri. Although he originally believed in God and wanted to serve God, in fact he lacked goodness in his heart, which caused him to abandon God in the end, or, to be precise, to be abandoned by God. Not only was his father dead, he was not only sad, but happy that he could finally come out to learn music without his father's control. He had only desires for women but could not love, and finally his desire for women was completely transferred to the desire for food and power. He has a kind nature, but in the end he did not choose the path of being kind, abandoning God, and developing his inner greed, jealousy, hatred, and hypocrisy to the extreme, so he could only endure painful suffering for a lifetime.
The characters in the film are all symbolic, especially for Mozart. Just like the black mask of Mozart's father at the Masquerade, this symbolizes a kind of oppression and destruction.
In the second half of the film, Salieri and Mozart each conducted a performance. That time Mozart was reprimanded by his mother-in-law, the aria "der Holle Rache" in the opera "The Magic Flute". The two performances have something in common. There is a female who sings the main melody, and they are both standing on a high place, giving people the feeling that they are both in a god's position. (The scene has the meaning of genital worship.) The difference is that there are many people on the stage in Salieri praising the goddess together; in Mozart's scene, there is only one goddess singing alone in a high pitch. Salieri's music is full of power; Mozart's music is full of smart beauty, but also with sadness and resistance.
I feel that the contrast between the two performances here is also expressing the theme of the film. Salieri's performance is a kind of pursuit and praise for power. (Pay attention to the manner in which Salieri conducts.) In
Mozart's music, there is a true God singing, which is very noble and incomprehensible to the world. Later, the music became sad, and the soprano kept fighting against the whole band, also showing strength, but more tragedy. This is a portrayal of Mozart's destiny and self. A kind-hearted person has been oppressed since he was a child, and when he grows up, he has never met his talents. He is manipulated by others through power and political means.
The reason why I read so many times and write so many words is because I have seen both sides of myself in the movie. It is also from elementary school music, there is also the personality of an artist, and since I was a child, I am determined to be a great musician. This movie is like a mirror to me. I found myself in many conversations. Many times I am arrogant, feel inferior, jealous, and ask God questions. But now I find that it is up to you to choose God or the Devil.

Amadeus quotes

  • Constanze Mozart: Wolfie, I think you really are going mad. You work like a slave for that idiot actor who won't give you a penny. And here, this is not a ghost! This is a real man who puts down real money. Why on earth won't you finish it? Can you give me one reason I can understand?

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: It's killing me.

  • Antonio Salieri: All I wanted was to sing to God. He gave me that longing... and then made me mute. Why? Tell me that. If He didn't want me to praise him with music, why implant the desire? Like a lust in my body! And then deny me the talent?
