It's a movie that's hard to define and easy to ignore. After watching the whole film, you will feel that it talks a lot, and it is difficult to tell what it is talking about.

The film is based on the story of a scientist, John Lilly, whose idea originated from an ancient fantasy about what it would feel like to be in complete darkness and silence if one were cut off from all the stimuli of the outside world.

I remember watching a documentary before, and some astronauts need to carry out this kind of experiment. If they can't pass the sensory deprivation experiment, they can't go to space to live. All of this has to do with the most metaphysical feeling, the hallucinations. Many people in this state will see visions, which will cause fear and then slowly collapse.

Although we don't have to experience the taste of sensory deprivation, we can experience it through movies, but we can appreciate the taste of transcendence and reality. The whole movie is like that sensory deprivation box experiment. Put aside the complicated religious symbols and the settings beyond the brain hole. In fact, this movie can also be seen as a story of an absolutely rational person who stretches out into the arms of love and finally turns into nothingness.

Eddie, a scientist, has been pursuing the realm beyond the truth. He constantly seeks, wants to cross the boundaries of reality and science, and wants to go to the unknown realm of human beings to find out. In the eyes of others, even in the eyes of his peers, Eddie is a lunatic, a monster who sells his soul for his purpose. This is no joke, because there are a lot of scientists who are really, really crazy.

Experiments beyond human nature, exploration of vague ethics, and even self-abuse. In the past, people have been selected by scientists and locked in underground caves to prove that time does not exist. It might be fine at first, but right away one gets into a weird situation and can't go on. In that unique state, it is difficult to describe what happened.

Just like many people eat mushrooms and medicines, don’t they just experience all kinds of hallucinations? Movies, games, and now more and more illusions have gradually become reality for people. What cannot be found in reality, but found in fantasy, is not a way of living. For the time being, I won't comment on whether this method of living is correct or not, but it is true that more and more people have gone and lived like this.

Just like the heroine's declaration of love in the film: let's fall in love, let's get married, if the result is a disaster, let it be a disaster, then break up and say goodbye. With such a outlook on life, Eddie is farther and farther away from the world. Regardless of professional title or position, he is only immersed in pure research. I spent my whole life searching for myself, changing myself, and matching that split image.

In the end, Eddie jumped out of the shackles of the spirit and completely turned into an instinctive image. He only had to eat, drink, and sleep. This became the most satisfying state in his life.

End with a few lines of lyrics:

-Is this the real life

-Is this just fantasy

-Caught in a landslide

- No escape from reality

...

-Nothing really matters

-nothing really matters to me
