Twenty years ago, when I was young. This is really a piece of crap.
I watched this movie for the first time on my bedroom computer more than 20 years ago. It was a rented pirated plate, which cost only two yuan a day, and it was covered with scratches and sometimes stuck. While watching it, I felt that the plot was utterly stupid, but it was at the end, when the subtitles were finished, that I was willing to give up the computer. Because there is an elf-like heroine and such good music.
Claire Danse's appearance is not very outstanding, but she is the only bright spot of this second-best movie, because of her dusty temperament, it makes this movie a little bit of a medieval legend. Years later, when I looked at Xingchen, her face was even more mediocre, only her eyes were still shining. But seeing Robert De Niro dancing in a pink dress was eye-opening. Pull away.
Years later, I have forgotten the plot of the movie and still clearly remember a lot of the music in it, because in the weeks after I first saw it, I traveled all over the city's famous underground video stores and finally bought it. A box of original imported movie soundtracks arrived. This tape played very well and did not affect the playback at all, and was regarded as a treasure by me. Later, when I was graduating from college, a close friend suddenly asked me for this tape, and I gave it to him reluctantly. I would occasionally wonder long after that, would he be kind to this tape? Or just throw it away? Anyway, after all, I refrained from asking him.
Later, I watched the musical Jesus Superstar, and it was also a very scary plot. Jesus' fans wore leather pants and held AKs, but Weber's music made me unforgettable. The same modern unsuccessful rendition of ancient tales, loathsome plots paired with unforgettable music. Then I started watching musicals, but soon lost interest because the music was not good enough. But after thinking about it, it seems a little difficult to demand Weber's level from others. Until I saw the movie The Phantom of the Opera, it was a movie with good plot, performance, and music, but it was Weber's again, and it was even more unfriendly to other musicals.
I have nothing to do today, so I watched the film again, and once again sighed at Claire Danes' bright eyes, nice music, and a utterly stupid plot. Reminds me of my boyhood by the way.
