Warning: I am old version 1 and 2 nerd fans, RTD fans, CC fake fans, magic special black
Foreword: those things with DW and some confessions
first encounter
The first time I saw Doctor Who on ATV's English channel was the episode Tooth and Claw. In fact, according to DW's consistent shooting quality, I should have turned the channel immediately, but as soon as Rose spoke, I became curious: Oh my god, why does the English spoken by these people sound like they came from the countryside? The werewolf CGI that appeared later was pretty bad, so my first impression of DW was that this was not a low-cost bad film made in any rural area in the United States. Because it's not the same as the American movies I usually watch, I'm a little bit wondering what the product is, so I plan to watch this episode. In retrospect, this episode was actually quite thunderous: werewolves are aliens. Then I thought it was a movie, but there was a trailer for the next episode, and the trailer suddenly found that the protagonist group had arrived in modern times. So, I became a little interested in this somewhat strange TV series.
RTD powder and magic special black growth process
I didn't pay attention to who the writers were at first until season four. In other words, I started chasing after the fourth season. I watched the first two seasons in one breath, and then watched the third season after the end. It was also in the fourth season that I started to pay attention to spoilers, and it was also at that time that I learned about Magic. Like many people, Blink was amazed at first sight. So the fourth season is kind of looking forward to the Weeping Angels reappearing. In fact, it can be said that Blink turned me into Whovian, and the love I had for Blink only appeared after I re-watched it later. Then in the fourth season, you can also see people cheering that RTD is stepping down, and Magic is going to be in power. So more or less I thought RTD was a bad screenwriter at first. It may be because of Blink that the expectations for Magical are high, but I am very disappointed with the fifth season. At the beginning, the two sides fought fiercely, and it was commonplace to post messages to each other.
#stay away from the rice circle
In fact, the return of RTD, I did not expect so many people to cheer. Of course, it may be that all the magic special powders of RTD black are gone. After all, CC gave up the drama not long after it came on stage. So I became an RTD fan more or less out of rebellion against some magic fan. After all, I have seen on Weibo that someone was scolded by bloggers just because they replied that they prefer RTD and don't like Magic. What's even more annoying is to use insulting titles to scold RTD. Of course I don't know what kind of abuse magic fans have been subjected to, but is this kind of language really something that someone who loves DW can say? What's even more irritating is that the blogger was followed by many people in the DW circle, but no one accused him of his behavior. Suddenly I feel that people who are RTD fans are isolated, and from time to time they post yin and yang scolding Shiren Yan fans and RTD fans. It is this kind of fan behavior and my disappointment with the fifth season that have greatly deepened my good impression of the first four seasons. I even rewatched it and found that it was so good-looking, so now I have become an RTD fan. Although I have also insulted Magic, but it was said to my college classmates. In fact, it was a bit like that blogger, because my college classmates liked Magic's script. I regret saying these words. After all, I hate Magic's script and some of his brainless fans. I have absolutely no feelings for him personally. So RTD is back with a sense of victory for us. And that blogger seems to have abandoned the show before the start of the CC period after Maute left. Anyway, I rolled my eyes and got cramps.
Diversity evaluation:
(The rating is based on the first impression of watching it for the first time + understanding of the old version + the impression of watching all the new episodes so far)
s01e01 Rose
Rating: 5/10
RTD is planning a season, and it usually pushes to the climax slowly towards the end of the season, so the first episode I wrote basically has no breaking points, and this episode is no exception. It is my least favorite first episode during RTD1. So at this juncture, I am very worried that RTD will plan the first season of RTD2 according to this rhythm again. But considering that RTD2 will start with a 60th anniversary special, maybe I'm just overthinking it. The idea of using an old villain is a good one, but there's really nothing new in this episode, and the cannibal trash can is weird (even weirder than the old man-eating plastic sofa). Although I like that RTD didn't let the Doctor save the world by himself in the first episode, the plot of Rose's salvation is still not new, old-fashioned or even a little embarrassing. By comparison, both of the older Auton stories are better than this episode, even if the older version's narrative is slow-paced. So in fact, compared with the women who fall from the sky, RTD is not much better than CC (but CC is so much longer and has no content...), I can also understand how annoying some old fans were at the time. RTDs. However, as an old fan of the acquired version, I still have to say that RTD's overall grasp of DW and its modernization are still good, and the old version of Shuiji's bad stories should not be too much.
s01e02 The End of the World
Rating: 6/10
Looking back at this episode after watching the old version, in fact, this episode has the feeling of the old version, which is the kind of feeling that is easily outdated. Even the plot is quite old and nothing new. The character creation that RTD is good at doesn't turn over much, and the plumber's image is very good, so that she felt a little regretful when she took the lunch. Although this episode is about the Doctor saving the world, the tree man also sacrificed himself to help the Doctor, so the Doctor is really not a superhero. The highlight of this episode is completely at the end of Rose's sigh when he saw the bombed earth and the dialogue with the doctor when he returned to the modern earth. This scene raised the whole episode by N heights. However, the blandness of the plot still makes it difficult for this episode to get a high score.
s01e03 The Unquiet Dead
Rating: 6/10
Rewatch the only episode that changed. Although I am not McGee, but looking at the script that McGee wrote for the new version of the drama is very mediocre, I still hope that he will not come back in the RTD2 era. This episode is also pretty bland, there are no breaking points, the whole story is not too turbulent, Dickens is a bit too much, but the conflict between Rose and the doctor and the scene where the supporting role saves the world at the end adds a lot of points to this episode, which makes this episode a lot. I suspect it is from RTD. Maybe I should start looking at confidentials.
s01e04/05 Aliens of London/World War Three
Rating: 7/10(part 1) 7/10(part 2)
There's so much I like about these episodes that I can live with the inexplicable "exhaust" joke and the 5-cent effects. Slitheen's design is a bit indescribable, it looks like a children's play, but it is very brutal. The overall plot can’t be described as ingenious, but I have the feeling that most RTD scripts give me the feeling that if I can read it in general, the mobilization of RTD scripts has a much greater effect on me than Magic’s scripts. And the replayability is higher, and there will be no feeling of price drop when re-brushing. This double episode is that even though there are many things that look cheap, the look and feel of rewatching is the same as the previous one, and you will even see things that have not been found before, such as politics and adult elements in it.
s01e06 Dalek
Rating: 8/10
Undoubtedly the best of the season, the only point of deduction may be the old-fashioned closing gate drama. It was this episode that made me change my mind about this seemingly childish and absurd TV series. After all, the last two episodes were really funny. I don’t think children really understand this episode. At least I didn’t understand it very well at first. Now I think this episode is really philosophical. is all ages), so the replayability is high. This episode really is the scariest Dalek story in the entire series, and one of the best Dalek stories, definitely the best of the season. So I can't understand so many people saying that Magic's double episode is the best of the season. This episode was so good that at one point I wished writer Robert Shearman would return. So I beg RTD to play with him again.
s01e07 The Long Game
Rating: 2/10
Forehead mother. I suspect I'm not an RTD fan, this episode really sucks. In fact, the theme of this episode is quite good. Human information is manipulated, and the villain spreads "fake news" to human beings to control human beings. If it is viewed in recent years, it may be more appropriate. However, this story is really boring, and the villain's design is still There's not much to remember, and this theme overlaps with the season finale, and Rose also featured the vase episode. Simon Pegg played various human villains, and the result was such a story, which can be said to be Sleep No More in the RTD period. There are not many bright spots in the supporting roles. In short, there are really too many shortcomings in this episode. As an RTD fan, I can't give high marks.
s01e08 Father's Day
Rating: 5/10
A lot of people seem to like this episode, but I really don't like this episode, especially the setting here: change the past and then a monster comes out to eat people, this is simply a copy of the old version of The Time Monster, and the latter Obviously a lot of people shouted bad. The whole plot is actually a bit like reading the beginning and guessing the end, so I don't have a good impression of this episode. But it's not too bad. Although the emotional scene can't impress me, at least I don't feel hypocritical. But I hope the villain of this episode never returns, after all, this setting is harder for me than Timeless Child.
s01e09/10 The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances
Rating: 6/10(part 1) 6/10(part 2)
Everyone loves Magic, but I don't. I can't feel how exciting these two episodes are, and the flirting scene between Rose and Colonel Jack really saw me roll my eyes to the point where I would fly into space and turn into a satellite orbiting the earth, because RTD said it would never follow Magic's script, So I'm going to do my best with black magic. Nancy's character is very flat, so at the end I saw no expression on my face, and even felt like I wanted to go to the next episode immediately. These two episodes have already highlighted the feeling of the magic special script for me: the suspense is faked, and the ending seems like nothing happened. As soon as the episode of Everybody lives came out, the horror atmosphere of the whole story became cheap. The only thing that is remarkable is the image of Doctor Dances (?), which is why I give these two episodes 6 points respectively. After all, I can't see such a deep thing unique to magic appearing later.
s01e11 Boom Town
Rating: 5/10
I personally like this episode quite a bit. The eating scene is really funny. For me, RTD is better at writing comedy than Moot. At least I don't find many of Moute's jokes funny or even a little embarrassing. Re-watching this episode, I found that the theme of this episode is actually a bit about abolition and death. Really, the RTD period is really suitable for repainting after a period of time. However, this topic has not been dug too deep. The segment where Rose and Mickey faced off was a serious point deduction.
s01e12/13 Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways
Rating: 8/10(part 1) 8/10(part 2)
I really like Lynda, I wanted her to play with the Doctor at one time, and as a supporting role, she felt much cuter than any of the main characters in the protagonist of Magic, so she was really distressed when she took the lunch. RTD's end-of-season problems started here. Even if Rose's transformation into a god is a foreshadowing of episode 11, the ending is still too mechanical and serene, and the whole line of Bad Wolf is unreasonable. Now that I think about Donna's finale in Season 4, it's a bit of a repeat of Rose's head, so I can forgive Magic for repeating his behavior, but of course I still don't like his script. Although the spoofs in the last episode were all outdated, I watched them with relish. If it was said that Black Mirror was not influenced by RTD's DW, I would not believe it. Although there are really many flaws at the end of this season, there are still a lot of scenes that I like, especially the confrontation between Rose and Micky and Rose's mother in the restaurant, which magically has a deep impact on me, and it's not even the first in retrospect. When I watched it for the second time, I realized it, but I was deeply shocked when I replayed it a certain time.
overall evaluation:
7/10
The most obvious aspect of RTD's modernization of DW is the "serialization". Influenced by "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", a similar plan was created, so it seems that each episode is a single story, but in fact all episodes are more or less connected, such as the crack in the third episode and the fourth episode. The five-episode Slitheen appears in the eleventh episode; the seventh-episode satellite appears in the season finale, etc., and there are even four or five episodes of Harriet throughout the four seasons of RTD1. So often looking at a whole season and looking at a single episode, the perception is different. The average quality of the single-episode stories in the new version of the first season is not high-quality at all, at most medium, and not above. However, RTD is really good for the construction of the DW universe. The events in it will have consequences, and they will also affect the characters. It makes me really feel a breathing universe. So even if the quality of the story is not high, the construction of this universe makes me feel very immersed. In particular, RTD also developed derivative dramas (again influenced by "Buffy the Vampire Hunter") to further build the DW universe. Torchwood and Sarah Jane take risks to face audiences of different ages and have their own "personality", which can be independent of DW dramas and integrated with DW dramas.
Although there are some childish things in this season, but after reading the old version, I feel that this is a tribute to the old version. After all, the old version of the villain/alien life design is often quite stupid. For example, Dalek's toilet stopper . The comments I saw on Reddit fit my thoughts very well: "The RTD period was a serious drama under a childish and absurd package." I think this is very consistent with the old version. The educational elements of the old version were actually subtle at the beginning. Form, not preaching, DW is not just adventure from the beginning, and RTD brings some political, technological, moral and other issues to the new version of DW, which is very similar to the old version. So I think RTD is doing a good job in modern DW. Although it is said that 10 Ren is more like 4 Ren, but the RTD period gives me the feeling of the old version of 1 Ren and 2 Ren black and white period. This season's finale even reminded me a bit of The Daleks' Master Plan, and there are very few stories with this kind of ending atmosphere after the second term, and even less during the Magical period. Maybe I hate to say that the old version seems to have only 4 terms, and everything is based on the 4 term period.
