There is always a certain kind of boy we find them are mature, strange or even grumpy. They don't fit in the school, or in most circumstances, because they act, think differently from other kids there. Mostly due to their growth environment , since they are too young to concern other things. Marcus is the typical one. He has a mom who dresses like a hippie and sinks into depression from time to time. After witnessing the attempted suicidal of his mother, he realizes it may take more than two people to live a life.
There is also always a certain kind of adult we sometimes are jealous or disdainful of. They live on their own and they don't have to work too hard for a satisfied life. What worry them the most everyday is how to live the day away . Will is one of them. He scorns the theory of No Man is A Island (which is why he says it was said by Jon Bon Jovi at the very beginning, it's like a kind of mocking), on the contrary, he believes All Man Is An Island, because that's the way he has been living. Yet, island dwellers have a tendency not to remain marooned for long, and, before he knows it, Will finds himself striking up a relationship with a lonely, backward boy named Marcus .
So basically, this movie give us one of possibilities of what will happen when two of the two sorts of people meet each other. One is too weird and the other is too boring; One is unable to fit in and the other thinks it's preferable to be alone. But at the end of the story, they have some differences because the intertwining of each other's life. Marcus finds a place where he can forget everything annoying and just relax, and Will do learn some kind of quality from this little boy, like fearless, and what's more important, some men are part of island chains and below the surface of the ocean they're actually connected.
The scene that I resonate most strongly with is definitely the part when Marcus perform Killing me softly on the stage. I did one too a few years ago , and it's a disaster. We prepared like two months for that performance, and I sang off key at the very beginning, then I just stopped, because my mind went totally blank then. And I got no Will at my back. Marcus had a rather memorable and interesting experience, and my experience is unforgettable too. It's just not that pleasant, but it has become a table talk among me and my friends, so I guess it's worthy now.
Hugh Grant was over 40 when he did the movie, but he is more charming than ever. He is one of those actors whose personal charisma is greater than any of their characters, so do Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt and so forth. You can hardly say it's a good thing or not. Their success are always regarded as their attractiveness instead of their hard works, but mostly, It's true.
