"The Grammar of Love" in Commercial Films

The exciting part, I personally think it is concentrated at the beginning and the end. Although the rhythm of the whole film is very fast, the characters, plots, and pictures are highly condensed at the beginning and the end, which is overwhelming, and successfully completed the task of making the senses fully enjoyable in the commercial film. Of course, because of the unfamiliarity with the overall style of the film during this period, it is difficult to distinguish that this kind of skillful mirroring and editing has merely fallen into a usual smooth paradigm.

The key part of the lens is very beautiful and clean. For example, the screenshot part.

Suspenseful setting: The confusing nature at the beginning makes people wonder whether the male protagonist is really a so-called agent; whether Mr. Caplin really exists; who is the person in that house. They are all done with wonderful montages.

Love is very romantic, the story is very thrilling, and the ending is very beautiful. The only thing that needs to be pointed out is that the combination of a twenty-six-year-old female protagonist (I don’t know the correct age but at least not looking old) and a male protagonist who has had two wives in an advertising tycoon is so justified and seemingly popular. I have seen a relish narrative, it seems that such a beautiful, young, and miserable woman can marry such a man who meets in such an adventure mission is the greatest happiness. The male protagonist complained to the professor almost in the main theme, and seemed to have contributed only half of the humanity left in the story, refuting that they should not put the fate of the country or such a heavy task on such a poor woman as a matter of course. The value of the film has risen sharply, and the audience has obtained a higher perspective, or it has realized the function of criticizing social (international) phenomena through a genre film. But is there a natural rationality/legitimacy for the occurrence of such amazing love? It can be said that the appearance of love in this movie is just a tool and a part of the plot, which is the so-called avoidance routine. It does not have the ability to move people so much. The whole film has a lack of love grammar. Of course, I am asking too much for a commercial film with handsome men and beauties and suspense so much.

They shouldn't be making films like this. Too much costumes and conversations and hairstyles. Too natural in those delicate parts and too rough with those unnatrualness. Should try the brook trout. A little trouty, but good.

Suspenseful pursuit, heroic mission and love entanglement, Xi Pang perfectly combines film value and commerciality. The plane-bombing dodging and the chase on Mount Rushmore became classics in terms of camera and tension, and became the precursor to many later Hollywood films of similar subject matter.

North by Northwest quotes

  • Phillip Vandamm: Mr. Kaplan, you are quite the performer. First you're the outraged Madison Avenue advertising executive who claims that he has been mistaken for someone else. Next, you play the fugitive from justice supposedly trying to clear himself of a crime he knows he didn't commit. And now, you're the jealous lover spurned by love and betrayal.

Roger Thornhill: Apparently the only performance that will satisfy you is when I play dead.

Phillip Vandamm: Your very next role, and you'll be quite convincing, I assure you.

  • Roger Thornhill: Now, what can a man do with his clothes off for twenty minutes? Couldn't he have taken an hour?

Eve Kendall: You could always take a cold shower.
