It was Hirokazu Kore-eda who confessed in the book "Things I Was Thinking When I Made a Movie" that "I prefer to focus on the people who stay rather than death." The same goes for this movie.
Movie plot:
In his later years, his romantic father met his former first love girlfriend and rekindled his old love. However, his father's seemingly healthy body actually has hidden dangers. Finally, after a trip, his father suddenly fell down. The father's illness has also inspired a lot of life choices for the two daughters.
Movie theme:
The film designs a romantic image of a father who eventually died at the house of his first love girlfriend. However, Ozu did not focus on how his father died. This is the same method as when he first fell ill. The condition of his father was not shown to the audience, but only the dialogue of the living people. Because instead of documenting death, it makes more sense to document how those who remain go on to live.
So we see the appearance of sentient beings after death.
Setsuko Hara and Shi Ye: Live for yourself, not the expectations of your family. Inspired by his father, he finally chooses to live his own way
The Daughter of First Love: A Qin Zhong-like character. Although he called his father on the surface, after the death of his father, the first thing was to lament that the mink fur shawl was not obtained, and the second thing was to date his new boyfriend. Even though she prayed repeatedly before going out, she didn't care about her father's death. And she is the representative of the trend in the play.
Relatives from afar: Similar to Tokyo Story, modern society not only separates us physically, we care more about time than the death of a loved one. "If I had known this earlier, it would have been better if I left when I was there."
This sounds very chilling, but it is a real conversation that happened around me. Because my grandfather had to wait for the children to go home for Chinese New Year, he postponed his deadline until after the Spring Festival. My uncle was trapped by the epidemic and could not go back. If I had known this earlier, it would have been better if I left when I first fell ill, at least when the whole family was there.
Modern people are so hypocritical. When a relative dies, not to mention one month of grief, but three days of grief is already fine. What kind of people have urban life made us into?
Highlights:
Pay attention to the last 30 minutes of photography, the dialogue between the two beauties Hara Setsuko and Shi Yezi under the clear sky and blue light, can be called the spokesperson of Japan, as holy and beautiful as Mount Fuji.
And the scene where everyone's Xuanyi walked on the long bridge can't be shaken in my mind for a long time, the photography skills are really superb, all film directors and photographers should watch this film.
