A desperate and hysteric undercover Erin want to play the game in a real way, and persuades her lover Chris to conspire with her to get the money from the bank robber, which she is supposed to intervene. The conspiracy costs the life of her lover Chris and also takes aways the meaning of her life, and the now detective lives in a life of void until her lover chiris's killer appears again.
There is nobody watching equals Lacan's famous saying there is Other of the Other. I know you want to be powerful and want to be seen. This is maybe the struggle the undercovered Erin is facing, wanting the money to get away and scaed to be found . The logic the film is following is the elimination of the surplus: Silas is bad and therefore is killed in the end; Erin is guility and paid her price; Chiris is innocent and justified, so his daughter with Erin is clened with the money his life exchanges.
On the surface, there is no law because the police can use their power to change and hide the truth, but there is underlaying logic that is the proof of the law of causuality. What the film focus on is rather the eyes of Erin, blue , deep and unfocused, which is exactly the mind of the subject, enjoying the jouissance, and losing the focus of life. The normal life has to eliminate this exceptional surplus to regain its normal operation.
