'Candyman': Full of rage over racism

(B+) Few Americans will openly say bad things after watching this film, because it is closely related to the BLM movement last year, and the whole film seems to say that white police indiscriminately kill innocent people, this is retribution. Can someone say bad?

Jordan Peele's previous works are a combination of horror and racial issues. This time he served as the screenwriter and producer of this film, and the director was replaced by a young African-American female director Nia DaCosta, but in fact, the whole style is still very close to Jordan Peele's previous works. In terms of bloody and terrifying atmosphere rendering, this film is actually ordinary, and it is on the same level as the "Halloween" series, but the biggest difference between this and other similar horror films is that the murdered objects are life There are people who bully others and are stupid and don't know it, and most of them are white, and for this reason, even if Candyman won't come out without chanting the spell, they are still asking for trouble.

So when you watch it, you can't help but wonder: Why are these people not afraid of the Candyman legend, but wanting to try it? And then throw yourself into the net? Maybe it's because the legend of Candyman originated from the African-American civilian community and is itself related to racial discrimination, but after hearing about it, many arrogant white people treated them with contempt without carefully understanding their background. Out of their usual disrespect for other races and cultures.

I haven't seen the original version (1992 version), but this new version does have its own unique style. For example, the director is good at presenting murder scenes with oil paintings, mirror images, and different angles, and never repeats them. Mirror movement and picture composition are also very innovative. One of the scenes that I thought was going to end, suddenly the camera was pulled into the distance, and the scene where the white woman was suddenly picked up and rubbed against the window from outside the building through the window was very impressive.

Some passages of memories are also well presented with paper-cut paintings, with the feeling of grandparents telling children scary ghost stories. Moreover, the director likes to look up and shoot high-rise buildings in Chicago from the bottom up, giving people a sense of oppression, as if to show the gap between race and class. African Americans who grew up in poor areas have been oppressed and bullied for generations. In the film, there are many scenes of white innocents shooting or maiming African Americans, but most of them only hear gunshots without seeing the real horror or blood. Conversely, when Candyman revenge for the massacre of white people, most of them will see scenes of blood.

Therefore, Candyman is not an ordinary serial killer story, but a myth with racial, political/political significance, and its essence is to express the anger caused by racism.

However, most horror movies kill stupid people, and this one is no exception. This is the eternal law of horror movies.

There are many bees in the film, and it is guaranteed that there will be buzzing echoes in my ears for a long time after watching~~
