I know that many comedies are deliberately provocative at the end, especially family affection, and I am used to it. I don't like to watch romance movies, because they are fake, and only love is the most unreliable in this world, but "City Lights" is worth crying.
In the previous part, buying flowers, saving the rich, and making money to treat the eyes of the flower girl are basically funny scenes. For example, Chaplin clearly wanted to save the rich man, but he followed the rich man back and forth into the river; Chaplin accidentally ate a whistle at a party, and ended up whistling while burping. In order not to affect everyone's happiness, he Choose to go out slowly, but attracted a group of pet dogs. When Chaplin was working to wash his face, someone was eating next to him, but he ate soap, and he blew bubbles while talking; and he was going to participate in a boxing match to earn money. (That paragraph is too funny to describe in words)
Later, the drunk rich man took Chaplin back to the villa. There was a robber in the rich man's house. After knocking the rich man unconscious, grabbing his wallet and running away, the police thought Chaplin was a bad guy. The rich do not know Chaplin when they are sober. So in order to help the flower girl, he really did robbery. No, he still went to jail
Fortunately, after he was released from prison, he met the blind girl again, and they recognized each other. At this moment, the music stopped, but I cried the most in this section. The blind girl was also waiting for him, he was biting the flower? He smiled awkwardly and nervously, which made me think that all the efforts of the homeless for the blind girl were worth it.
The end of the play is enough here, limited tenderness, infinite sadness.
