Who you met, you became you
There are too many people in this world who have their talents but have nowhere to use them, and there are too many people in this world who are good at planning but have no good opportunities. Of course we have heard a lot of inspirational stories, but when you have to know more and more, things disappear before they become stories. Ken Miles and Carroll Shelby, a car repairer who was mentally paranoid, and a car dealer who was forced to leave the stadium in a physical condition. They can make a big mark in the history of racing because they met each other.
Some people are destined to be engaged in a certain career, we call them geniuses, such as Miles. But God is often fair. If you have an extraordinary talent in one aspect, you are often unsatisfactory in other aspects. Therefore, lone heroes in history are often the generational names of tragedies, and the winners often belong to good teams. But Miles met Shelby, and when a genius joined a good team, victory was a matter of course.
It's not necessarily how deep the friendship between Miles and Shelby is. I always think their friendship is based on Shelby's appreciation of Miles. Shelby has been careful to maintain the purity of Miles drivers so that he can retain his passion and wildness for the sport to the utmost extent. In the same way, Miles' feelings for Shelby are more like respect and gratitude for a confidant.
It can be said that Miles made Shelby a better version of himself. But without Shelby, Miles would never be himself.
Business Is Business
Beebe said that the team should find a driver who is more in line with Ford's temperament. He was right. Miles' temperament is indeed more suitable for Ferrari. Enzo must like him.
In fact, as soon as the last three cars hit the line, I thought out of my mind that Miles should ignore these, take the championship, and then switch to Ferrari. With the title of champion of the three major events in the same year, no one wants to go wherever he wants to. With Miles' sorrow, if Beebe told him about this idea, he would be blamed for him. After he set a lap record on the penultimate lap, the only reason he slowed down was that he really missed Shelby's trust in him, and it was for him. The knowing smile before the downshift was because he finally had someone he wanted to protect besides his wife and children. This is the so-called sympathy.
Shelby told him in the controversy with Henry Ford II that bureaucracy can't let you win the championship. But Beebe tells you with practical actions that bureaucracy can prevent you from winning the championship. I don’t know if people sitting in a certain position unconsciously start to be arrogant. When Miles's disdain annoyed Beebe, he actually ordered the staff to raise a placard to slow down Miles, who was still fighting Ferrari. The anger of the loss of eight hundred ruined the tactics. And when all foreign enemies have been eliminated, it is even more impossible to let those who hate themselves win the victory. Life is often like this, not afraid of the knife in front of you, but afraid of the arrow behind.
Miles left suddenly, unprepared, and suddenly a cloud of dust flew up and people disappeared. No matter how big the legend is, it won't look heavier when life is gone. It's just that his previous dazzling light will definitely be mentioned repeatedly for more people.
