Destroy superstitions, popular law is a good film

This is a totally anti-religious superstition movie.

In the opening credits, the father flouts the law and the church for his faith, leaves the plantation and goes to a barren land. At the same time, several indigenous people are entering the plantation and entering modern society. It can be seen that superstition makes people backward. Religion in this film only exists in one family, there is no real object, it is illusory, and it does not bring any benefits to people. After his father was attacked by a goat, he had the ability to fight back, but he put down his axe and started to pray, but he died. And the devil is real, exists in desire, there are images of rabbits, goats, crows and witches. Make a deal with the devil, quickly fulfill your desires, and perish. Superstition, the same perish. If you want to live, you must enter modern civilization. If you want to believe in religion, you must first obey the law.

Rather than a horror film, it should actually be classified as a literary film: the process of people driving people crazy? The wandering rise from patriarchy to feminism? Of course, it can also be a capitalized idiot. The eldest daughter and the witch who came out of the hut in the woods to eat the tender grass are so beautiful~ Also: The eldest baby is actually food poisoning and a cold in the rain. No steamed egg custard, no chicken soup and polenta, just read the Bible and put some If blood is useful, it is hell!

A true dark/goth/devil movie, all based on real folklore. There is no stereotypical frightening way in horror films, but it is more like a religious and ethical film about "how the devil defeated God".

The Witch quotes

  • [first lines]

William: [before the court] What went we out into this wilderness to find? Leaving our country, kindred, our fathers' houses? We have travailed a vast ocean. For what? For what?

Governor: We must ask thee to be silent!

William: Was it not for the pure and faithful dispensation of the Gospels, and the Kingdom of God?

Old Slater: No more! We are *your* judges, and not you ours!

William: I cannot be judged by false Christians, for I have done nothing, save preach Christ's true Gospel.

Governor: Must you continue to dishonor the laws of the commonwealth and the church with your prideful conceit?

William: If my conscience sees it fit.

Governor: Then shall you be banished out of this plantation's liberties!

William: I would be glad of it.

Governor: Then take your leave, and trouble us no further.

William: How sadly hath The Lord testified against you.

    William: [turning to leave] Katherine...

  • Thomasin: [walking gradually toward her sister] I be the witch of the wood.

    Mercy: Liar! Liar!

    Thomasin: I am.

Caleb: List' not to her, Mercy.

Thomasin: I am that very witch. When I sleep my spirit slips away from my body and dances naked with The Devil. That's how I signed his book.

    Mercy: No!

Thomasin: He bade me bring him an unbaptized babe, so I stole Sam, and I gave him to my master. And I'll make any man or thing else vanish I like.
