Story: 9/10
Effect: 9/10
Overall Evaluation: A.
Excessive expectations for a movie that has not been seen before often turn into bad things. The small untitled trailer before "Transformers" last year aroused the interest of the majority of film fans (especially "LOST" fans like me) in a sense far beyond the "Transformers" movie itself. . After a long wait of more than six months, several trailers have been bombarded frequently on TV and the Internet since January, and even the online shouting two days ago, made me very worried that this is just like "The Blair Witch Project". A pure bubble movie.
My worries are purely redundant.
Without the opening and closing subtitles, the film is only 75 minutes in total. But the story in this short 75 minutes is by no means simple and direct, but very rich, telling a fairly complete story:
1. The protagonist’s origin and relationship are explained quite clearly, and the behavior when the disaster comes is basically in line Common sense;
2. The movie has a beginning and an end, and the monster looks clearly and clearly. It is by no means like "LOST". Until now, a problem has not been figured out (many students hate "LOST", but "LOST" fans are because of this. And like "LOST"). Although it was just a perspective, the whole environment was clearly explained, where the explosion should be exploded, and the damned place was dead. There are basically no flaws in the special effects, and the sense of reality is really strong.
3. The horror atmosphere creates nature. Please note that I'm talking about "horror", not "horror"-the film is basically full of tension, supplemented by blood. In some passages, it is completely suffocating and shouting "sh*t" (Chinese people generally call "I rely on");
4. There are many carefully arranged details in the film. For example, the kitchen clock, such as the monster peeking out from the tip of the iceberg on TV, such as New York City with smoke billowing at the end of the lens, such as the ending tricks that I didn't even notice (see the link here, those who haven't watched the film please do not enter) , Look for it when you are ready to watch it the second time). For other details and reasons, please refer to the FAQ made by IMDB users.
I have been shopping around on the Internet. Many people criticized this film for the following reasons. I must summarize and refute them:
1. "The camera shakes me to death! The director is really grandstanding."
Rejection: The whole process of shooting with a camcorder is creative. Although it is not the most original (see "The Blair Witch Project"), it is of course the first time in movie history to shoot a monster movie with this method. If I want to criticize this film for relying on this grandstanding, then I really have no words. Because unique things are grandstanding. The creativity of JJ Abrams and others is unparalleled.
Suggestions for movie watching: Sit in the back row of the theater. Don’t sit in the front row. If you are often motion sickness or seasick, take a ride or something first. The movie is short enough and the atmosphere is tense enough that you won’t fall asleep.
2. "The monster will come out for 30 seconds!"
Refutes: unreasonably making trouble. How many seconds did it take for Sadako to crawl out of the TV?
Suggestions for watching movies: Go watch "Godzilla" and "Jurassic Park" 1/2/3. Those are long and clear.
3. "I don't know where the monster comes from!"
Refute: Do you know what aliens eat in a universe where there is nothing? Where did the predator come from? Why do you have such a big enemy with the alien, don't you know?
Movie-watching advice: watch a few more movies first.
4. "The story/end is bullshit!"
Refutation: telling the story is bullshit probably underestimates the power of love; I think the person who says bullshit at the end is bullshit: this ending is foreshadowed in the beginning of the movie, and in the process of surprise It's basically justified and well-founded, and it's thousands of miles away from nonsense.
Film watching suggestion: Set aside the stereotypes of shaking the camera and the expectations of "Gozilla", and enjoy it calmly.
5. "I don't know any actors, they must be bad."
Refusal: Think about it, these people are running away from the monsters, and suddenly Will Smith is carrying a shotgun and his big white teeth or (Bruce Willis is holding a pistol and he is covered in blood) rushes out to say a joke, the camera is not all in vain. Irrelevant, let me say that before watching "Speed", who knew Reeves?
Suggestions for viewing movies: None.
Of course, I am not saying that this "Cloverfield" has no shortcomings at all. To be honest, it has a lot of shortcomings, basically it is not 100% seamless in terms of creating a sense of reality. For example, in order to take care of the audience who only watched "Gozilla", "300" and "Transformers", the director "had to" edit "a large number" of monster images to the story and the camera. "distortion". But on the whole, the main line of the story and the successful scheduling of the atmosphere far exceed these shortcomings in details.
I feel dizzy (physically) and chills (psychologically) just like after watching "The Blair Witch Project". But the difference is that I never want to watch the second time "BWP" ("BWP" is actually a traditional suspense film, all the atmosphere is about the last moment, just like I would not watch the second time "The Sixth" Sense" same). And "Cloverfield" is a thriller in the traditional sense. There are many interesting details in it. Even though you are prepared, you still feel a sudden shock and an unparalleled sense of reality. The outcome has long been predicted, the key is that the process is really attractive.
I will definitely watch "Cloverfield" again. This is a new century, original and different movie that was literally translated into "Cloverfield" by someone unknown.
