People are full of prejudice and hatred, and the only way is to be a jerk

Viggo Mortensen is one of the best Mesozoic actors today. He has played a hero in the Middle Ages ("The Lord of the Rings"), a Russian gang leader ("The Promise of the East"), and a rough chauffeur ("Green Book"), all rough and ruthless characters. But his blue-green eyes betrayed his secret -- a man with a very soft heart.

Sure enough, in 2020, based on his own experience, he wrote, directed and starred in the movie "Falling", telling a story about family love, love and forgiveness with a deep feeling.

But for such a film made by such a man, I watched it in a state of anger.

why are you mad? Just because Mortensen's dad Willis is such an asshole.

Willis is a typical blue-collar little American, with a macho temperament in his youth. This kind of person lives in a culture that teaches them to respect rough and tough macho masculinity, so this person has always beaten his wife, scolded children and engaged in women, and finally his marriage failed and he died alone.

The culture of such people also makes them full of prejudice and hatred of the world and others. For example, they still call black people nigger to this day, even though Obama is almost elected president. And these so-called big men who worship masculinity are naturally extremely homophobic. In their language, homosexuals cannot be called Gay, but Faggot.

Willis also loved his son when he was young, but gradually he discovered that his son had a sissy character that he hated. Later, the son admitted that he was gay and lived with his boyfriend (husband). For Willis, this was a humiliating humiliation that he could not let go of for the rest of his life.

So after many years, he was alone, although he was cared for by his son and daughter, he would always curse and offend everyone; and the most jerk of this person was that he used all kinds of dirty and vicious language to attack himself every day. Son, for only one reason: he couldn't accept that his son was a Faggot.

Although his son has decided to stop arguing with him and give him complete tolerance with a toughness that ordinary people do not have, at the end of the movie, Willis did not let go of his prejudice and truly reconciled with his son.

To be honest, as an audience, I really can't accept Mortensen's unprincipled tolerance for his father, even if it is out of family affection, he will not sacrifice his self-esteem at all. And a bastard like his father, apart from hitting him head on, what else is there to say?

So I see "Fall" as a social criticism movie instead. Wouldn't someone like Willis be quite representative of certain regions and populations in the ultra-conservative America? Living in a remote country, abandoned by the declining industry, he can never escape poverty and blockade, and he can only spend the day with beer and curses. These people are not only hard-core conservatives and rightists in politics, but they are also full of hatred for everything in the real world, especially other races and other sexual orientations. They think they are defending American traditions and values, when in fact they are just a group of sad underdogs who are being eliminated by the times.

And these people are not Trump's foundation, aren't they the group of people who smashed, smashed and looted on Capitol Hill?

Looking back at Willis, this hateful and pathetic figure, I can only say one thing: if a person's heart is only filled with prejudice and hatred, he has no other way but to become a jerk.

This truth is not only limited to a certain country and a certain culture, but also all over the world.
